My first hour class was a total snooze fest. I can't believe that Sasuke wanted to take a class that you have to build things in. Not to mention our teacher is really scary. Apparently he is a veteran and the scars on his face are from a bomb. I fold my arms behind my head and sigh loudly.
"There is no way I'm going to pass that class." I muse out loud to Sasuke. When he doesn't reply I cast a sideways glance at him. He looks like he's spacing.
"Yo, earth to Sasuke. I'm going to flunk out of this Academy didn't you hear me?" I repeat with a small pout.
Finally Sasuke looks up and rolls his eyes at me. "Well you are an idiot." He smirks at me.
I grumble as I rummage through my now full slack pocket for my schedule and look it over. "Oh yea!" I exclaim with excitement, putting Sasuke's insult to the back of my mind. I was so worried about flunking woods that I totally forgot that the next class I had was with Jiraiya.
Sasuke raises an eye brow at me. "Well that was a bi-polar moment." He mutters dully.
I try to shrug off my excitement and give Sasuke a grin. "Well I have to get off to Jiraiya's classroom. Want me to say hi to Sakura for you?" I laugh stuffing my schedule back into my pocket.
Sasuke nods. "Sure, and tell her that I can't make lunch." He says before he turns and walks away.
I turn and hurry to the room where Jiraiya is waiting for his first years to seat themselves. I spot Sakura across the room by the wall and wave enthusiastically at her. She smiles back at me but I can tell it doesn't reach her eyes. I sigh to myself and start to make my way over to her.
"Hey Jiraiya!" I call and throw my hand up to give him a high five.
The old man laughs a hearty laugh and puts his hand up just in time for me to make contact. "How's it feel to finally be in high school?" He asks shuffling some papers on his podium.
I laugh loudly. "Awesome, believe it!" I say and punch the air in front of me. Jiraiya is awesome. He and my father have been friends for years. That's probably why he's my godfather.
"Listen up," he says getting serious, "we're in the school setting now so it's Mr. Jiraiya from now on." He says, his stare pegging me.
I nod trying to match his seriousness. "Yes sir." I salute him and then head to the seat behind Sakura and sit. "Oh Sasuke wanted me to say hi for him and that he won't be able to make lunch. Whatever that means." I grin at her as she turns around to face me.
Sakura nods. "Thanks. Hey can I ask you something?" Sakura asks quietly looking down at the floor a vague expression on her face.
"Hn? What is it Sakura?" I ask leaning back in my seat, waiting for her to finish whatever thought she had. She doesn't look very happy.
"I know it's probably just Ino being cruel but, do you think Sasuke is acting different?" She murmurs almost inaudibly. I fold my arms behind my head and think about her question.
The image of Sasuke smacking me upside the head earlier this morning pops into my head. Bipolar and abusive, seems like the same old Sasuke.
I lean forward on my desk and rest my head on one of my palms. "Nah, he smacked me this morning for no reason." I pout remembering the sting on the back of my head that has now gone. "If anything Itachi and his group of friends are pressing his buttons again. You know how Itachi can be." I say in a bored tone, waving my hand around.
Sakura looks at me wearily. "What do you mean? Itachi has only ever been nice to me." She says quietly.
I shrug. "Itachi does that. Just wait, soon his guard will drop and you will see his true colors." I inform Sakura with a smile.
Sakura eyes me carefully before she nods and smiles in response. I hope that she doesn't think that it's her fault he's being weird and hopefully I didn't make things worse...I tend to screw a lot of things up.
I'm so thankful that even though Jiraiya is in teacher mode he's still as fun and care free as he is when he's over visiting with my father. Unlike woods I actually like his class, I don't think that I will have any problem passing his class.
I wait for Sakura to put her note book and text book back into her bag. I wonder how bad pre-algebra is going to be and grimace, I'm horrible at math. "So, how was your algebra teacher?" I ask Sakura casually as we leave the classroom.
I raise my hand and half wave goodbye to Jiraiya, I'm sure he will be over for dinner tonight being the first day back to work and all.
Sakura cocks her head off to the side and gazes towards the ceiling. Boy does she look cute when she is thinking. "Hmm, Mr. Sarutobi isn't too bad. You should do fine Naruto." She smiles at me.
I really must be a moron like they all say, because even after all these years she can still make my heart melt. I grin at her anyway. "Believe it!" I say giving her a thumbs up.
This makes her roll her eyes and giggle. I'm glad. At least for a little while she won't be sad thinking about Sasuke.
