"only the beginning"

as soon as we make it inside the apartment and allissa shuts the door behind us, i blurt out-

me: okay so now you have to spill about you and mark.
allissa: well, him and i have talked about it a lot. and last night things just kinda got heated and one thing led to another..? *laughs*
me: dude this is crazy.. *laughs*
allissa: i know, dude *laughs*
me: i'm really happy for you both.
allissa: thanks bestieee. so you and josh haven't yet?
me: i would tell you if i lost my virginity *laughs* but no, we haven't yet.
allissa: you better tell me *laughs*
me: so what are we supposed to do now that they're all gone?
allissa: i haven't really thought about it..it's gonna be super weird.
me: i know. we've literally spent the whole month with them.

we talk for a bit and then she starts making us some breakfast. i walk to my room and lay down on my bed. i reach in my back pocket and grab the note that josh gave me at the airport before he left. i open it and read it..

dear kate,

i just want to begin this note by thanking you. thank you for making this month the greatest month of my entire life. i enjoyed every moment of it, but mostly the moments when i was with you. a lot has changed for the both of us. when i came to new york, i didn't expect any of this to happen and i know you didn't either. but i couldn't be happier that it did happen. the moment i first made eye contact with you in the streets that day, instantly my life started to change and it still is now that you're apart of it. i know we're still in the beginning of this relationship, but i hope it continues on. i never want this feeling to go away. i don't ever want to lose you, kate. i swear i fall harder for you every second, if that's even possible. spending months away from you is going to be the hardest part of this all, but we're going to get through it. we're in this together and we will make it work.

i'm writing this the night before i leave, but i know my future self is missing you like crazy already.

i look up from the paper, tears filling my eyes. i don't know what i did to ever deserve a guy as amazing like this....i feel like i'm in a movie right now after reading his note. it was all worth that chance, and i really do hope this lasts with him. i pick up my phone about to call him, but remember he's on a plane right now. i want to talk to him so bad. i miss him so much already.

allissa and i watched movies all day and just spent time together. it was really nice to relax and have a whole day to ourselves to hang out. we haven't had one on one time in a while. josh had already texted me that he landed, but he hasn't been talking because he's been spending time with his family since he was gone for an entire month.

it was around 7pm and allissa was making us some dinner and my phone started buzzing. it was a face time call from josh. i sat down on the couch and i swiped to answer and his face popped up on the screen, making me smile.

josh: heyyy cutieee i missed your faced. what you up to?
me: josh..
josh: what? kate what's wrong?
me: that note..what did i ever do to deserve you.
josh: awhh you read it? sorry i know it was cheesy-
me: -it was sooo sweet. and i wanted to call you immediately after i read it but i couldn't. i started crying.
josh: i want to be able to drive to your apartment right now and be with you.
me: and watch movies and snuggle.
josh: and most likely end up falling asleep.
me: *laughs* ugh i miss you.
josh: i miss you too, kate.

we stared into each other's eyes for a moment. he started smiling.

me: what?
josh: you're so beautiful.

i look down, instantly blushing a bit.

me: stooooop *joking*
josh: *laughs* i'm serious.

i look back up at him, smiling.

josh: so what've you been doing all day?
me: just been watching movies allissa. how's your day been?
josh: that sounds like fun. it's been good, just spending time with the fam.
me: *laughs*
josh: what?
me: your canadian accent really comes out when you say fam *laughs*
josh: don't make fun. i cant help it *jokes*
me: it's actually adorable. i'm not complaining.

josh turns to look behind him and i see someone asking for something. this must be will, his younger brother that's 8 years old (i don't know his actual age in real life).

will: is my hat in here?
josh: no..why would it be in here?
will: i thought i left it in he- hey who is that?

will points at me. josh looks back at the screen.

josh: this is kate, my girlfriend.
me: hiii, you must be will.
will: *looks at josh* wow she's really pretty.
josh: i know she is.
me: awhh thank you.
will: *whispers loud* he won't stop talking about you.

i laugh and look at josh.

me: so you've told your family about us?
josh: yes and they're all happy for us. olivia can't wait to meet you.

olivia is josh's younger sister that's 15 (i don't know her actual age either).

me: awhh where is she??
josh: she's downstairs somewhere.
me: oh okay. i cant wait to actually meet your family in person.
josh: eventually we have to do that soon. they will love you.
me: hopefully.
will: i'm gonna go get her.

will walks out of the room to get olivia. josh looks back at me.

josh: would you want to come to canada?
me: i would love to eventually.

he smiles. thinking about flying all the way to canada sounds crazy, but eventually i want to. his family seems really nice from what josh has said and it would be really cool to fly out of the country too.

we talk for a while, allissa joining in. i see josh's door open behind him and olivia and will walk in the room.

olivia: hiiii oh my god your kate?
me: that's meee *smiles*
olivia: you're so pretty what the heck.
me: awhhh stop look at you.
olivia: nooo stop *covers face*

we both laugh and josh just makes an awkward face.

me: what?
josh: olivia, you better not steal my girlfriend.

we all start laughing.

olivia: sooo when you coming up here??
me: i have no idea, but i for sure want to eventually.

we all chat for a while about random things and i get to know will and olivia. they both are so sweet. after a while, they walk out the room and leave josh and i to talk.

josh: they both are gonna love you, i can already tell.
me: really?
josh: yes definitely.

we talk on the phone for another 30 minutes and he had to hang up because he had to eat dinner with his family.

allissa: sooo meeting the family?
me: i guess sooo *laughs*
allissa: can i say something?
me: sure..?
allissa: you both are gonna last. i can just feel it and see it.

a smile grows across my face and allissa smiles back. i didn't know how to respond because i just...didn't know how to? not in a bad way. but like, i didn't know what to say because i think i agree with her...it's crazy to say that, but i do. and i guess i'm scared to say it out loud because it's just really soon and a lot of meaning.

and this is only the beginning of everything..
