~ 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 ~ 𝚏𝚘𝚛 𝚓𝚘𝚜𝚑 𝚛𝚒𝚌𝚑𝚊𝚛𝚍𝚜

"a month later"

it's been a little over a month actually and we're now in the month of november. a few things have changed and i've met someone as well (we'll get to that in this chapter). josh and i have been apart for a while, and honestly i miss him so much and new years cannot come sooner. allissa and mark are still together and better than ever. josh has been saying that renting a house in california for the group has been in the works for a while and he said that they've found a house and are moving there soon but haven't found an exact date yet. the new years party will be held there which is even better. everything in life seems to be going pretty great right now.

*november 9th*

i woke up to my alarm going off. i reach over and turned it off, then stared at the ceiling for a good minute, contemplating if i should get up or not. and then i remember i have work.. shit. i manage to get out of bed, hop in the shower, and put on my  uniform. i walk to the kitchen and see allissa making her and i some scrambled eggs.

me: are those the last eggs we have?
allissa: yeah, and we're out of milk and cheese too.
me: jesus i just went grocery shopping last week.
allissa: living here is expensiveeee.
me: bro for real, we're gonna have to get two jobs.
allissa: hopefully not, but at least we have the option to move back home sooner if we need to.
me: true. or we could just do social media and become youtubers. they make great money.
allissa: okay bet.

we both laugh. allissa and i have always dreamed of becoming youtubers or working in that kind of field. now that we have connections and are literally dating social media influencers, we have a big chance to make it happen now.

we both eat breakfast and leave for work at the same time. once i make it to the coffee shop, i go inside the bathroom to put my hair up (it's a single bathroom). as i'm fixing my hair, i glance in the mirror to see the lock moving on the doorknob behind me. i whip around and see a guy swing the door open. he jumps a little in shock.

??: shit i'm so sorry.

i start laughing.

me: it's all good. maybe knock next time? *laughs*
??: yeah for sure *laughs*

i notice he's wearing a uniform, holding a broom and some cleaning stuff and realize he must be the new worker that was hired. he starts to close it but i stop it.

me: wait, were you just hired?
zain: yeah, i'm zain.

he holds out his hand to shake mine. i grab his hand and shake it.

me: i'm kate. it's nice to meet you.

not gonna lie, he's definitely attractive. he seemed nice too.

zain: it's nice to meet you, kate.
me: well i have to start my shift, i'll see you around though.

i smile and started to walk out of the bathroom.

zain: see you around, kate.

i heard him say behind me. maybe him and i could become friends. i walk to the front desk and put on my apron. i start making a drink and feel someone bump my hip with theirs. i look up and see jennifer smiling at me.

me: jen!

i give her a quick squeeze.

jennifer: heyyy girl. you just came in?
me: yes and i can see it's gonna be a busy day.

i looked around and the place was pretty packed for the morning. jennifer works here too and we've become closer friends over the month and started hanging out with allissa and i. she's 18, so sweet and has been living here in new york for a year with her mom. she moved here from london which is insanely cool. she's been working here longer than i have.

she's also helped allissa and i explore new york more and know the good places and the bad. it's been nice having a guide almost 😂 she also knows that allissa and i are kind of tiktok famous now because of our boyfriends.

me: so have you met the new guy that was hired?
jennifer: zain?
me: yeah, he seems nice.
jennifer. *laughs* i was the one that got him hired. we're really close friends.
me: ohhhh i didn't know that.
jennifer: yeah we met when i first moved here. i was actually wondering if he could join our little dinner we have planned tonight?
me: so you like him?
jennifer: w-what? why do you say that?
me: because why would you invite him to one of our hang outs when it's just girls unless you wanted us to meet him because there's something going on between you two.
jennifer: you think into things way too much.

she laughs and starts to walk away to help a costumer at the desk. she glances back at me.

me: of course he can come *winks*

she laughs and rolls her eyes. i feel my phone buzz so i grab it out of my apron and see a text from josh.

a smile went across my face seeing those words. it seems so long but we've been counting down the weeks till we see each other. i wanted to answer but i couldn't because i was at work. i see there's an order i have to make so i put my phone back in my apron and start to make it. after making the iced coffee, i poor it in a cup and grab a lid to go on top. i glance up and see the person standing there at the counter waiting for their coffee. he's looking down at his phone, and my heart sinks to my stomach and i feel like i might throw up.

there's no way it's him...
