Soulmate AU

When people turn the age of 16, they are granted a soulmate mark. Sometimes people just got symbols that represented something important to their soulmate. Sometimes other people just got their soulmates name.
You had received a name.
You had been so excited. You remember counting down from 10 and you remember feeling the burning sensation on your lower back when the time had struck. You stared in fascination as the three little letters spelled out the name.
Poe.
It had been almost 5 years ago that you received your mark. You were disappointed that you hadn't found your soulmate yet, but you knew that you had to be patient. You would meet eventually.
You were living on Jakku. You had no family. You were just a scavenger trying to survive.
One day you were riding back to your shelter when you witnessed a man falling out of the sky. He landed hard, and you cringed.
"Oh my god." You breathed out and ran towards him. His legs were buried in the sand and his upper body was twisted to the side. You quickly turned his torso so it wasn't twisted, and dug his legs out of the sand. Once you had dug him out you slowly pulled him towards your racer so that you could take him to your shelter.
The man was heavy, but he didn't look it. You struggled to get him on your racer. His body was basically pure muscle, which means if he was ever a threat to you, you were screwed.
You prayed he wasn't.
You began to drive. Your shelter wasn't far and you made it back within 10 minutes. Then you drug the man inside and laid him down in the cool metal. You had some water left in your canteen and you poured that into his mouth. He coughed and spluttered, and his eyes popped open. You two stared at each other for a moment before he sat up suddenly.
You saw the panic in his eyes and you stepped back in fear. He groaned and gripped his ribs, but got up none the less.
"Where am I?" He asked you. You were shocked, and didn't answer right away. When he asked you again more forcefully you stuttered out, "J-Jakku."
He visibly relaxed. He studied your living area. It was small. Just a makeshift bed and table was the only furniture in it. But it kept you safe from sand storms, and that's all you needed.
His eyes fell on you.
"You live here?" He asked. You nodded. His eyes narrowed.
"Take that mask off will ya?" He said in annoyance. "Tell me how I got here?" He was impatient. You slowly undid the cloth that was wrapped around your face, revealing the scars on it.
The scars you were born with. The scars you had received from masters who didn't like your work.
The man's eyes widened.
"I brought you here." You said ignoring his stare. "You fell from the sky."
"Oh yeah," he said frowning in deep thought.
"I'm about to go trade in these parts." You explained to him picking up you sack of parts. "You're welcome to come with, or you can stay, but this will get us a little food."
He nodded.
"I'll stay here, see if I can come into contact with my base." He said.
"Base?" You asked.
"Yeah, I'm with the resistance." He explained.
"Wait really?" You had always wanted to meet a person with the resistance.
"Yeah, I'm a Pilot." He said noticing your interest. He smirked. "The best one they've got." He added on.
"Well judging by the way you crash landed, they must not have the best pilots then." You joked. He looked at you in fake offense.
"Harsh words from a person whose never left Jakku before." He shot back.
"How'd you know I've never left?" You asked raising an eyebrow.
"You're scars suggest that you must have been sold into slavery as a child. Slavery isn't legal on most planets, but it is here. You've got dark skin from being out in the sun your whole life. And Jakku is uninformed about the rest of the galaxy. You don't know who I am, and quite frankly, I'm kind of a big deal."
He was right about everything.
"Alright Mr. big deal. Inform me of the galaxy. What's your name?" You asked him crossing your arms.
"Poe Dameron."
You froze.
"Did you say Poe?" You asked him. He narrowed his eyebrows, sensing your uneasiness.
"Yes," he was on his defense now. "Why?"
You shook your head.
"I'm Y/N." You said reaching out your hand for him to shake it. He reached out apprehensively.
"Nice to meet you Poe."

You had left Poe, and headed to the trading post. You had earned three portions for your parts, and now you were heading back.
You thought about the pilot as you took your time. Was he really the one? He didn't seem phased when you said your name, so he must just have a symbol.
Or maybe it wasn't you.
Maybe he wasn't the one. Your spirits fell. You didn't know how many people were out in the galaxy named Poe, but there was probably more than just him.
So for now, you wouldn't get your hopes up.
You arrived back to your shelter shortly. When you got back, you saw Poe studying something closely on his wrist, but quickly pulled his sleeve down when he noticed you. You held up your portions.
"I have food."

You ate in silence.
"I contacted the Resistance." Poe said after you had finished eating. You were both sitting outside and watching the sunset.
"Yeah? Are they coming?" You asked him. He nodded.
"That's good." You said.
"Look uh-" Poe started. "When they come here to get me, would you... would you want to come back with me?" Poe asked you hopefully. His question shocked you.
"I mean, you don't have to, but I-"
"Of course I want to go with you!" You said cutting him. You jumped up.
"I would love to go with you!" Poe smiled at you.
"That's great," he said standing up with you. You bounced up and down with joy. While doing so, your necklace came untucked from your shirt. It used to be your fathers, before he died when you were very young. Poe took notice to the necklace immediately.
"What's that?" He asked pointing to it. You looked down at it.
"My necklace," you explained, "it was my fathers."
"What's that on it?" He was talking about the symbol that was on it.
"This symbol? I don't know what it means, but I assumed that it meant family. The three lines, for my father, mother and me. Then for the line going through them probably means that we're always together or something like that." You explained.
"That's crazy." Poe said. His eyes twinkled.
"Why do you say that?" You asked him suddenly self conscious of the symbol.
"Because I have the same one." He said pulling up his shirt sleeve. There on his wrist held the same symbol. You looked up at him. You slowly turned around so your back was to him. You lifted up your shirt to reveal his name.
You shivered when you felt his finger tips brush across it.
"Y/N?" You turned around to face him. He was smiling. "I believe we're soulmates." You giggled at his words.
"It seems we are, Mr. Dameron."
He brushed your hair behind your ears. You smiled softly at him.
"I've finally found you." He whispered.
"I think it was the other way around, but..." you said. He laughed. You took his hand in yours.
"Ready to start our life together?" You asked him. He smiled his beautiful smile at you.
"More than ever."
