"Mrs. Dameron, there's been an accident." You stood up quickly from your station and immediately started to follow the pilot that was sent for you.
"What happened? Is it Poe? Kennedy?"
"I'm afraid it's both. They went flying, and there was a crash."
"Are they hurt? Are they ok?" You asked frantically as you practically ran to the med bay.
"I can't say ma'am. I was just sent to get you."
"What room are they in?"
"18, they're in there together as far as I know." You sprinted down the hallway, counting the rooms as you went. You were terrified of what you were about to find out. You burst into the room.
"Ken? Poe?" They were laying in the hospital beds. Kennedy had what seemed to be a broken wrist. She looked a little dazed, like she had hit her head.
"Mom?" She sounded confused.
"Oh Honey," you ran to her side. "Are you ok? What happened?"
"I'm fine, there was a crash. Dad's hurt really bad mom." You turned your attention away from your daughter and to your husband. Kennedy was right. He was in much worse condition.
He was covered in bruises and cuts and had a black eye. There was a big gash on his forehead and his was in a neck brace and a sling.
"Oh my god, Poe." He must've been asleep because he didn't reply.
"He saved me mom." Kennedy's voice cracked as she told you this. "An engine went out and he was sitting behind me. I don't know how he made it to the front seat but he crawled on top of me and shielded me. I probably would've died if he hadn't done that." Tears streamed down your face as you listened to your teenagers words.
"I'm so sorry you had to go through that." You pulled your daughter into a tight hug. "Everything will alright, ok? I'm so glad that you and your father are alive."
You and Kennedy sat on the edge of Poe's bed and waited solemnly for him to wake up. Little did you know that it would be a while before he did.

"Ken honey, why don't you go back to our quarters and get some sleep. I'll stay with Dad tonight." You told your daughter.
"Mom..."
"It's ok honey. Just go get some rest. You need to make sure your concussion heals." Kennedy sighed, but nodded reluctantly. She had barely slept since they got back, and she was tired.
"I'll see you in the morning mom. Love you."
"I love you too sweetheart." You gave her a tight smile as she walked out of the room. The smile dropped though once the door of the hospital room closed.
"Oh Poe." You cried softly. It had been 3 days since he had gotten back, and he still hadn't woken up. It had been three long days since you hadn't slept. No matter how hard you tried, you couldn't get your mind to shut off the negative thoughts. Heavy tears ran down your cheeks as you held Poe's hand tightly.
"Please wake up." You begged him. "I can't lose you too."
Though it had been a while since the war had ended, you still felt the death of your family as if it were a fresh wound. You couldn't bear losing Poe too. It'd be too much.
You sat there crying, praying that he would wake up. If only you had checked the engines before they had left, this wouldn't have happened. It was your job to make sure that the x-wings were in as best shape as they could be, as head mechanic and all. You blamed yourself for this.
"I'm so sorry Poe."
Suddenly, you felt a light squeeze grip your hand. Your head shot up to see Poe staring down at you with tired eyes.
"Hey," his voice was hoarse. You let out a breath of relief and jumped up. You hugged the man lightly, being careful not to hurt him. You pulled away and immediately started sobbing.
"Oh my god Poe." You cried.
"Woah, hey, what's wrong? Why are you crying?"
"Poe, you've been unconscious for three days!" You sat back down beside your husband and took his hand again.
"I thought I was gonna lose you."
"I'm sorry y/n. I'm sorry. There was a crash and I was protecting Ken-" his eyes went wide and he tried to sit up. "Where's Kennedy?" He asked frantically. You held him down.
"She's fine. She's back at our quarters sleeping." Poe sighed in relief and laid his head back on the pillow.
"Thank god." The two of you were silent for a minute.
"I'm so sorry," you whispered out, tears beginning to stream down your cheeks again.
"What are you sorry for?" He squeezed your hand.
"I should've checked the engine before you left. This is all my fault. I could've told you if it wasn't safe."
"No y/n" Poe said sternly. "This is not your fault. Ken and I decided last minute to take a ride in an old x-wing. I should've known it wasn't safe to fly it. You cannot blame yourself for this." You stared down at him sadly.
"I'm so glad you're alive." You kissed his knuckles and continued to stare down at him.
"Me too. Dying was not on my agenda for this week." You laughed despite the awful situation you were in.
"I'm glad to know that you're still making jokes in the worst of times."
"Hey it's what I do baby," he winked up at you. Or tried too, but his swollen eye made it difficult. You smiled down at him and rubbed his knuckles with your thumb.
"How about you call a doctor so we can get out of here?"

Poe wrapped his good arm around you as the the two of you walked slowly back to your quarters. It had been a long three days, and you could feel the sleep you lost catching up to you. You yawned and tried to shake the tiredness from your eyes. Poe couldn't help but notice your actions and immediately became concerned. The two of you stopped in front of the door to your quarters and you opened it. The two of you practically stumbled inside and fell into the bed.
"You said I was out for three days?" Poe asked as he wrapped his arms around you. You hummed in response breathing in his scent.
"Did you... were you awake the whole time?" You rest your head on his shoulder and sighed.
"I thought you were dying Poe."
"Y/N..."
"Please don't turn this into a lecture right now Poe. I was worried. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't fall asleep. I had to make sure that you were ok. I wanted to make sure that I was there when you woke up." Poe took a deep breath and rubbed your back soothingly.
"Thank you, but I just want to make sure that you're taking care of yourself."
"Well don't go dying on me, and I'll take care of myself just fine." Poe smirked down at you and kissed you deeply.
"Well now you have the chance. Sleep, you deserve it."
"But I wanna stay with you."
"I'll be here when you wake up. Showering you with kisses and praising you for being such a good wife." You giggled as he tickled you with his beard.
"I love you." You whispered right before you fell into a deep sleep in Poe's arms. He smiled down at you and kissed your forehead.
"I love you more."
