You sighed and plopped down in your chair, just having gotten back from the bathroom. You hated working communications, but hey, being pregnant and all, that was about all you could do for the rebellion at the moment. It still sucked though.
The only interesting part about this job was hearing the distress calls. They were often little nothings, like someone's x-wing breaking down. But sometimes they got really good. That's when you liked workings coms.
But there were times when you got a distress signal that made your blood freeze. Those distress signals usually involved Poe. Poe had a distress signal almost everyday. Most of the time it was nothing, just a stand by signal just in case he ended up needed help. Sometimes you thought he just called in signals to freak you out.
But every once and I while, it more than just a little prank he was pulling.
"This is Commander Dameron." Came his raspy voice through the coms.
"I'm here, what's up Poe?" You answered.
"I'm hurt, and I need help." He replied. Your hands started to shake.
"Where are you at?" You began typing in the coordinates that he gave you. You sent them out to any pilot available.
"Help is coming. Just stay with me."
"Y/N," he breathed into the com. "It's really bad. I can't move and I'm bleeding out."
"Please don't talk like that Poe. People are coming, just stay with me until then."
"Y/N, if I don't make it-"
"You are gonna make it. I need you here Poe. You are staying with me."
"Just... can you please talk to me? About anything, I just... I need to focus on something."
You sniffed and wiped away tears that began to fall down your face.
"I felt the baby kick today." You started off softly. "I was sitting in the break room just humming when their little feet started moving. It was the most amazing feeling Poe. You have to feel it when you get back." You sniffed again and began rubbing your swollen belly.
"I'm due in two months. Just think Poe. Our little baby out in this world. A family. We'll have a family. We can be together and happy. And after they're born we can get married and..." you broke down crying. All the hormones and the thought of Poe dying got to you.
"Are you still there?" You asked after a moment.
"Yes," came his breathless reply.
"I love you so much Poe. Just stay with me ok?"
"I love you y/n."
You began crying harder.
"We can pick a name when you get back. We'll sit down and go through books, and look for the right one. We find out the gender next week remember?"
"Y/N..." he sounded like he was in pain.
"We can paint the nursery and pick out clothes. We'll find toys and get one of those," you sniffed again, wiping away your tears. "we can get one of those dangling things that you put over a crib."
"Y/N, it's ok. You'll be fine. I don't think I'm gonna make it." You covered your mouth to hold back your cries.
"Don't say that Poe." You cried. "Just hold on."
You made contact with the rescue team.
"Are you close?" You asked them urgently.
"We're almost there. Tell the commander to hold on for 2 more minutes."
You switched back to Poe.
"One minute Poe." You lied to him. "One minute and you'll be on your way back to me, ok?" You thought that lying to him would make him fight harder. Poe stayed silent.
"Please talk to me Poe." You could here his heavy breathing coming through the coms.
"I wish I could see your face."
You out your head in your hands and tried to hold it together.
"Just listen..." you vice cracked and you took a deep breath. "Just keep listening to me."
The team would be there in 45 seconds, you just had to keep Poe occupied until then.
"I was thinking that you could teach the baby how to fly when they get older. We could raise a whole new generation of pilots for the rebellion. Just think of how much we could get done with a whole flock of little yous flying around." Poe coughed over the com.
"That sounds great." He drawled out. Just then the team came in contact with you.
"Tell that we are closing in." You let out a breath of relief.
"Poe the team is there. Keep holding on, ok?"
"I see them y/n. I see them. I love you so much baby."
"I'll see you soon Poe. Don't let go."
"I'm holding on as tight as I can. See you soon."

You waddled out onto the landing strip and your eyes landed on Poe. They had him on a stretcher and you made your way over to him as quick as you could. He looked awful. He was pale and his abdomen was wrapped tightly with crimson blood seeping through. But despite how terrible he felt, he smiled up at you sweetly.
"Oh Poe," you cried taking his hand. "You scared the shit out of me."
"I'm just keeping you on your toes sweetheart." He chuckled which turned into a cough. He groaned painfully but looked back up at you.
"Please don't ever make me do that again." You followed along with the stretcher as the pushed him into the med bay.
"I'm sorry baby." He mumbled. He then laid his other hand on your stomach. It was as if the baby knew that Poe was there and safe. The baby gave a swift kick, and Poe smiled brightly.
"I could feel that all day." He whispered. You smiled down at him.
"Get healed and you can." You bent over and kissed him on the forehead.
"Thank you for coming back to me." Poe gripped your hand one more time before they wheeled him into the emergency room.
"I'll always come back."
