"What's a pretty girl like you doing working alone on a Friday night?" Poe waltzed up to you. You sighed and rolled your eyes at the pilot.
"Things need to get done Dameron, I'm just doin my job." You replied, while reaching for your wrench. Poe plopped down beside you.
"Don't you ever take any breaks?" He asked you.
"I don't have time for breaks." You said while tightening a bolt.
"Oh come on, everyone's got time for a little break. What'd ya say Y/L/N? I'll take you out for a bite, and you can relax? Have some down time with me?"
"Sorry Poe," you denied his offer. "Maybe some other time." He groaned.
"You're killing me! What do I have to do to get you to go on a date with me?"
"You don't want to go on a date with me." You murmured quietly.
"What makes you think that?" He asked sincerely. You stopped what you were doing and stared at him.
"Poe, there's so many things that you don't know about me. Once you've figured my secrets out, you'd run." You told him truthfully.
"I don't believe that." He replied fiercely. You sighed.
"You're not giving up are you?" You asked him, but you knew the answer.
"Nope," he replied while grinning. You held your breath for a moment.
"Fine," you said finally. "Pick me up in an hour." Poe smiles that beautiful smile of his and leaped up with joy.
"See you then sweetheart," he called while running off.
"Oh Poe," you said to yourself. "I really hope you don't run.""Call me if you need anything, I should be back in about 2 to 3 hours." You told Leia. She nodded.
"Have fun Y/N, I'll make sure that Kennedy is well taken care of." The general replied. You smiled at her.
"Thank you," you turned to your daughter. "You be good Kennedy." You told the 3 year old sternly, and she nodded. You hugged her.
"Bye baby, I'll be back soon."
"Bye momma," Kennedy said hugging you back. You smiled and gave her one more squeeze before letting go. You waved the general goodbye as you stepped out her door. You made your way back to your quarters where Poe was supposed to be picking you up in about 5 minutes.
He arrived to your place shortly after you did. He was whistling cheerfully and he had a skip in his step. He smiled brightly at you when you had opened your door.
They way he looked you up and down gave you butterflies.
The date went very well, and you had agreed to go on several more with the pilot. About a month later, you two were still taking every Friday night off to see one another. Dameron still didn't know you're secret. To be honest only a very few people knew about Kennedy. You don't know how you kept her so secret after all these years. Of course people knew that there was a little girl running around the base, but very few knew she was your little girl. The only people that really knew were Leia, and your best friend. Kennedy spent so much time with Leia that they just assumed the Leia had adopted her as her own. You were ok with that. You were only 20 after all.
You didn't want to be judged. When you had joined the rebels, you had already had Kennedy, she was two. You had joined when several other families had joined, so it was easy to slip Kennedy in without anyone knowing that she was yours. People had assumed she was an orphan. But there were only a couple who knew the real truth.
And now it was time to see if Poe could handle the truth.
You hadn't planned on the call happening. You actually wanted to wait until you and Poe were more serious, but fate decided otherwise.
When you had gotten the call, you and Poe were walking along the forest path. You had received it from your best friend. She was frantic, practically crying. Kennedy was having an anxiety attack. You had ended the call and turned to Poe.
"I'm sorry Poe, something came up. I have to go." You told him. He searched your eyes.
"Well what is it? I'll come with you." He replied grabbing your hand. God, the boy did things to you. You thought for a moment.
"Ok," You agreed. You were honestly scared. You didn't want to ruin things with Poe, they were going so well.
After a few minutes, you arrived to your best friends quarters. You opened the door to find Kennedy a mess on the floor. You glanced at Poe and saw his confused look before running to your daughter.
"Hi honey," you said to her, kneeling down in front of her. She wrapped her little arms around your neck, and you hefted her up as she cried into your shoulder. You rocked her for a few minutes, and she quickly calmed down. You turned to Poe and saw him still standing in the door way.
"So..." he started. He crossed his arms and studied the two of you.
"Poe... meet Kennedy." At the sound of her name, your daughter lifted her head. She turned it to look at the man in the doorway. Poe's serious expression broke when he saw the girl's little face. He smiled softly and stepped closer to the two of you.
"Hi sweetheart." He said to her softly. Kennedy put her face in your shoulder. Poe turned back to you.
"Meet my secret." You whispered. Poe smiled and hugged you, making sure not to crush Kennedy. You sighed into the embrace.
"Can I hold her?" He asked pulling away. You nodded.
"Kennedy is it ok if Poe holds you?" Kennedy's wide eyes turned to Poe again and she saw his smiling face. Her little hands reached out to him, and Poe took them eagerly.
Poe took such good care of her. He didn't judge you for having her at a young age. He took her in as his own and became a major father figure in her life.
Poe and you had been dating for about a year when he asked you to marry him. You happily said yes. About 2 months after the engagement, Kennedy had called Poe 'daddy'.
He cried.
One day, you and Poe were laying in bed together, and he decided to break the silence.
"She was the best secret anyone's ever kept from me."
