The door jingled, and you looked up at the man who walked into the café.
"I'll be with you in just a minute." You told him and he nodded. You finished up the drink you were making, and you gave it to the customer that was waiting.
"What can I get you?" You asked the man.
"Black coffee. The strongest you got." He replied. You nodded.
"Coming right up. Can I get your name?" You asked him.
"Poe Dameron." He replied. "Want my number too?" He joked, winking at you. You rolled your eyes.
"It'll be a couple minutes." You said ignoring his comment. You brewed his coffee, taking your sweet time. You didn't like his comment, and you wanted to show him that.
Even though you found his comment rude, you had to admit.
He was a pretty man.
You finished making his coffee.
"Black coffee for Poe." You called him over. He took it with a big smile.
"Thank you," he said.
He wasn't even irritated about how long he had to wait. You watched him as he walked out the door.
Somebody cleared their throat, making you remember that you were at work. You broke out of your trance and helped your customer.
Poe Dameron was on your mind the rest of the day though.
Poe started coming in every morning for the same black coffee. You couldn't help but wonder why this stranger had suddenly decided to start coming in everyday.
It was a Saturday morning when walked in with the same bright smile on his face.
"Good morning," he greeted you.
"Good morning Poe," you said already brewing his black coffee.
"How are you?" He asked, striking up small talk.
"Tired," you replied with a chuckle. He smiled.
"Yea, me too. That's why I'm here." He said. You handed him his coffee.
"I would drink my own coffee, but I hate the taste." You confessed to him. He stared at you in fake shock, and you giggled.
"What are you, a double agent?" He joked.
"Nope, just a broke college student who's trying to make a little before they have to go back to school." You corrected him.
"Oooh, I see." He said with a smile.
"What about you? I don't think I've ever met anyone who loves black coffee as much as you do." You asked him. You had no other customers at the moment so you decided to get to know the man better.
"Sleep and I aren't the best of friends. This just helps me get through the morning." He said gesturing to his drink.
"Well I hope that the coffee I make is suited to your needs." You replied.
"Believe me, it is." Poe said winking at you. "See ya later!" He called as he walked out the door. You waved goodbye to him and went on with your shift.
Poe has been coming in for about three weeks now. Each time he walked through that front door he greeted you with the same smile. You noticed however, that each time he picked up his coffee, your conversations became slightly longer.
You had grown so accustomed to him coming in that you just made the black coffee before he came in so that it was ready for him.
One day you were talking to him like usual when a customer came in. You paused your conversation with Poe to get the customers order, then continued it back up once you started making his drink.
"Hey!" The customer called out. "Shouldn't you be a little more focused on your job rather than talking and being unproductive." He said angrily.
"Sorry sir," you replied and rolled your eyes at Poe who was turning to the customer.
"She's just making a little small talk. There's no need to yell at her when she's getting her job done." Poe argued calmly. The man became mad.
"She's wasting my time." He fumed.
"You just ordered, how is she supposed to get your drink to you that quick?" Poe retaliated. The customer scoffed.
"Who do you think you are talking to me like this?" He targeted Poe.
"A member of the Air Force who just got back home after a tour who wants a little coffee in the morning to get him going. Who do you think you are disrespecting a person who works hard at their job?" Poe's reply was as smooth as butter. Poe gestured to you and waited for the man's response. He turned red and mumbled something under his breath.
"What was that?" Poe asked trying to get a rouse out of the man. But before any further arguing could commence, you set the man's drink down on the counter.
"Your coffee sir." You said with sass. He shot you glare as he snatched his coffee. He stalked out the door and you and Poe burst into laughter.
"You didn't have to do that!" You told Poe as he finished laughing.
"What do you mean? Of course I did. He was being a jerk." He replied.
"Well how can I thank you?" You asked him. Poe got a glint in his eye.
"Let me take you to dinner?" He asked hopefully.
"As a date?" You questioned.
"If you want it to be." He said smiling at you. You grinned back at the man.
"It's a date Mr. Dameron."
