Christmas In Oak Parks

Chapter 3

Alana woke up to the smell of pancakes. Her mom's pancakes. She thought for a second that it was all a trick, her mother hadn't left for work, and she was in the kitchen making breakfast. When Alana ran into the kitchen anticipating the sight of her mom, she was crushed at the sight of her dad making pancakes. Carter was sitting waiting for pancakes.Her dad made them exactly like her mom did, the same recipe. "Good morning" her dad said. "Good morning" she said sleepily. "So you're staying with me for a while I guess." He said. "Yeah I guess." Alana said upset. "I have a surprise for you after school, you'll love it." He said. "Ok." She responded half asleep. "Do I get a surprise?" Carter asked. "Later, I have one for you too." Alana left the room and got ready for school and walked to the bus stop. It was such a boring day. Carter was on a different bus, he was an eighth grader at OPMS (Oak Parks Middle School).The bus came barreling down the street and stopped. As Alana climbed onto the bus, she felt immediate warmth from the cold winter air. The bus stopped about three more times before it arrived at OPHS. (Oak Parks High School) Alana walked through the school doors, pushing her way through large throngs, and arriving at her locker. She walked to first period and took her seat. A few minutes into class, a phone rang. Alana's phone. She had accidentally Left it in her pocket, and now it was ringing loudly. The teacher menacingly stared at Alana. Her dad left a voicemail that played so loud the whole class heard. "Alana? Oh it's your voicemail. Well I was going to call and tell you that your surprise after school today was canceled. I was going to take you shopping for that gift you wanted for that Sam kid. You know how you were going to..." Alana shut her phone off. Sam was in her class, he'd heard everything, and now, he probably didn't like her at all. The whole class was laughing at her. Alana was going to get Sam a video game he'd been talking about, she liked Sam a lot and had planned to ask him out and give him the video game.Now her dad ruined it, just like he ruined a perfectly good marriage, over the most ridiculous thing possible.
