Cole Brandon's POV

It was mid night. I was in the cabin after my routine rounds.

Every time I closed my eyes to get some sleep, 'No, Cole. I don't love you.' keeps repeating in my head.

Sky! Her words. Her true feeling for me. That was it.
She doesn't love me.

I knew it myself that she didn't.

But I hoped that she would. If not now, one day.

I shouldn't have asked the second question. I should have remained silent.

If only I hadn't asked, I would have waited. Obviously.

But knowing that she wouldn't, even if I did wait, hurt me more.

And then Chris.
Sorry, Mr. Christopher Rodriquez.

And that was enough to let me down.

I shook my head.

Shut up, Cole! Stop Overthinking.

The nurse came in.

"Sir! Room no 4801. Patient is hyperventilating."

I grabbed the stethoscope and ran.

It was early morning, I dragged myself to the cafeteria before going home.

"Good morning." Someone said. I just nodded and walked past.

There came a smack on the back of my head. For a minute, I could feel everything go blank and then set in. I turned to see Katy fuming.

"I said good morning." She said and waited for my reply.

"Good morning, K" I replied her, rubbing the area she just hit.

"God K, that hurts. I have just come from a night shift. Be kind to me."

"Kind, my foot. Sit there, I will get you a coffee." She said and walked to the counter.

I sat and looked around to find the surrounding strangely silent. There were people more than usual, but it was silent. Except for the cooking sounds, it was dead silent.

And then came a loud voice.

"Here, Cole. What are you looking for? Just eat." K sat down, sipping her coffee.

"I am sitting right next to you. Why are you shouting, K? Want everyone to listen?" I asked. She rolled her eyes. She then started to stare at me.

As I took few bites of the sandwich and turned to look at her, she was still looking at me.
"What?"

"You kind of look good. The messed up hair looks good on you."

"Messed up hair? I have been working the whole night. I'm really tired. I might look like a monkey." I said hand combing my hair and set it properly.

"I really like people who work. Especially in the nights." She said and laughed.

This girl.

"Yuck! Didn't you get someone else for these talks?" She laughed it off and got up.

"Bye! I need to go before the chief finds me missing."

"Yeah! Bye. Thanks for the foods."

"Shut up and eat." She slapped my shoulder and walked.

"Katy!" I called her when she was about to exit.

"Yeah."

"Can we go for a drink tonight? Same place." I asked.
