Part Thirty-Four
"You haven't changed one bit."

"So tell me, how did you boys fall in love?," Mrs Park wanted to know while the two munched on their hot food cautiously. She had made Ttoekbokki for them, a dish that was very much favored by her son many years ago.

Jimin blushed a little at the question, not quite sure about how to answer it. After all, he couldn't possibly tell her they had fallen in love after having had a one night stand because of a stupid bet the younger had made. No, he would love to spare her these details.

"It's complicated, actually."

Jungkook merely agreed, "Yeah, there were lots of ups and downs."

"Well," the blue-haired's mother said. "Sometimes that's what connects people. In spite of all the hardships, you two have found a soulmate in each other. That's the only thing that matters." And there was so much truth in her words. After all the drama or maybe even because of it, Jimin and Jungkook had found a reliable partner in one another. They didn't care about the bet anymore. They were happy.

Mrs Park could see that as well. There was a wide smile playing around her lips as she watched them exchange soft looks while holding hands on the table. Jimin's eyes were bright and shimmering, it seemed as if they were holding stars.

"I love you," Jungkook mouthed silently, words meant only for his boyfriend to catch.

Just when Jimin was about to respond, the sound of keys jingling resonated from the hall. "Honey, I'm home," the man shouted thereafter, making the blue-haired's blood run cold in an instant. Jungkook must've seen the look of sheer terror on his face because he immediately squeezed his lover's hand as a sign that he was there for him in case he needed any backup.

"Chul, you will not believe who's payed us a visit!" Mrs Park sounded excited, oblivious as usual to the fear in her son's eyes.

"Who?" The older man entered the small dining room, spotting his previously missing stepson and a stranger. "Oh. Hey, sport," he greeted Jimin as if his stopping by was the most normal thing on earth.

In the blink of an eye, the brunet started up from his chair to shake Chul's hand firmly, almost threateningly. "Hi, I'm Jungkook," he introduced himself, a hint of a warning in his voice. "I'm Jimin's boyfriend. Heard an awful lot about you, too."

Of course he'd bring his bodyguard.

"Chul," the man solely uttered with a fake smile appearing on his face before he turned to his stepson. "So, Jimin. What in the sam hill brings you here after you ran away, leaving your poor mother a sobbing mess for months?"

Obviously irritated, Jimin gnashed his teeth. This was so typical of Chul; to make him feel guilty for the things that weren't even his fault. Not entirely at least. Chul knew exactly why he had skipped town. Still, there he was, playing innocent in front of his wife, pleading his false ignorance.

"I figured I had some unfinished business here," the younger responded.

"You certainly do."
