From the corner of his eye he saw two eyes staring at him and before he could register what it was a streak of fur came at him clawing at his face and hands.

Alina was trapped in a dark room. She couldn't see anything but she knew she was in danger. She yelled out Evans name but there was no answer. She tried to move but she was restrained. She didn't know how she had gotten there or where she was but it was cold and she only had her nightgown on. She was scarred but realized that she needed to help herself through it. Tears ran down her face but she maintained her calm as best she could.

He shrieked as the animals claws dug into his flesh and he felt as the fangs bit into his hand. He thrashed and hit at the beast with his other hand as blood dripped from his face and hands and he struggled to see out of his wounded eye. "I'll kill you you little shit". As he moved across the room the animal rushed at him again flinging itself along the mans thighs and tearing into more flesh with its teeth and claws. This time he was more prepared and hammered down with his uninjured fist at the cat. He knew now what it was. He hated cats. He had killed a number of them as a teenager and it was the height of insults to now be attacked by one. He needed to find it and choke it to death and throw its carcass out the window. He momentarily forgot his injuries as he searched for the beast. He heard noises down below and it finally registered that he had screamed several time in pain and anger. Fear took over along with the pain he felt in his leg, hand and face. He couldn't see clearly now as blood dropped across his face. He needed to leave now before he was caught. He looked back at Alina as anger coursed through him once again. He had been prevented from taking her once again. He heard the low growl of the cat and pulled a knife out of his pocket. He tracked it out of his good eye and when it sprang again he buried the knife in the cats body with precision. The animal dropped to the floor. He reached down to pick it up by its scruff but he heard several footfalls coming up the hall fast and he made the decision to leave without touching the animal again. He moved to the corner of the room and out the balcony doors. He heard as the door was being pounded on from the outside as he made his way over the balcony and down the stairs to the other landing. From there he dropped to the ground below with a thud. He was injured and in pain but his adrenaline was high. He ran for the pool house and then toward the tree line before a shot rang out in his direction. Another shot came from the room where Alina was and then another one from the back of the house. As he ran into the woods another shot hit his shoulder but it didn't stop him. He kept running not realizing he was barefoot until he came to the place where he had camouflaged his ATV and jumped on. He heard the footfalls of the men running into the woods in pursuit but he had already pulled ahead leaving a trail for them to follow but they would not find him.

Christian sat outside the operating room and waited. The surgeon had been very hopeful that the injury to Mirandas foot would heel nicely. The wound had been deep but it had not severed any ligaments. They would have to watch for scar tissue to form and deal with it later but he was very optimistic for her complete recovery. Christian stood as the surgeon came out of the private wings operating center and was relieved to hear that all went as planned. She was in recovery and it would be another hour or so before she awakened. They could go home sometime after that if all was well.

Evan exited the plane and called home first but got no answer. Surely someone was up by now. Something was definitely wrong. He entered the car that was waiting for him as he exited the plane and called guard station The security guard answered and informed him that they had had a trespasser. the private caravan for all the details before he hung including the fact that his grandmother was now speaking with the police and the detective on site. The guard had assured him that Ms. Alina was alright although it appeared that she had been drugged. Evan felt his heart stop and for a moment felt as if though he was back to the time he had learned of his partners death. He couldn't breath and he couldn't think. It was a call that brought him out of his shock. He looked a down at his phone and it was Alina. "Baby, I'm almost home. I'm five minutes away. Are you alright?" The was a moment of silence and then "Evan, he was here. He was in our room. I know it was him. He, he ...." she began to cry and Evan felt his insides clench and boil at the thought of what he might have done to her. "Honey, Alina....please listen to me. I love you. I will be...." but she interrupted him with a sound that came from her very soul "he killed him, he killed him"....Evan was wild with worry. Who was she talking about. Was it his brother? It couldn't be..... "Alina, sweathart please your scaring me. Tell me..... "Theodore. He killed Theodore"....she was crying now and then them it was his grandmothers voice he heard next. "Evan, she's alright. She was unharmed. How far away are you?." His brain was moving so fast he was curt with his answer. "Entering the estate now" and he hung up. Their cat. He had killed their cat. But why? Of course he was a psychopath and so no reason would ever explain his motives. He hated everything about the man and if he got the chance he would kill him and think nothing of it. Nothing mattered now other than finding the bastard and ending his miserable life. He would protect his family, at all costs. He wouldn't leave her side again and he would make damn sure she understood that.
