Ashley Alina was a fighter. Anyone that had the chance to meet her knew it instantly. Not because she had a loud voice, because she didn't. Not because she was stronger and bigger than her friends; she was the smallest of her peers. It's was simply because of her heart. She loved. Loved everyone and gave everyone the love she felt in her heart.
Coming to Ash was a last ditch effort that her family made. They had heard of Dr. Emanuel Lazar from a close friend and decided to make the journey west from the East coast by train. Ashley was sick and the doctors just couldn't figure out what her illness was or much less how to treat it. She was disappearing right in front of her parents eyes.

At thirteen she was small for her age but what she lacked in size she more than made up for in spirit and determination. There was not a game she wouldn't play, nor a challenge she wouldn't meet or a book she wouldn't read. For all her physical activities her favorite things to do was read. When she chose to sit and read all day rather than enjoy the warmth of the Eastern Sun on an April Morning her mother felt a twinge of concern. "Ashley? Are you feeling unwell my sweet girl?" "I'm just tired mama. I feel a little warm but nothing more". By nightfall Ashley was burning hot and soaked in perspiration. The family doctors had been called to the home and it was feared she might have contracted Scarlet Feaver. Ashley was hallucinating as she succumbed to the effect of the fever. She dreamt she was walking through a vast sea of flowers and at the far end of the sea stood a boat. The name Alina was written on it. That wasn't surprising as it was her middle name. But the boat was sailing away just out of her reach. Try she might, she couldn't reach it. Then suddenly it was gone.
