Chapter 13
Kendra's POV
So many things were racing through my mind as Zayn and I walked through my front door. Zayn. Sarcoma. Everything. "Mom? Dad?" I yelled out into the open house, setting down my bucket of barely any money.
No answer.
"What's that for?" Zayn asked pointing to the bucket.
"Nothing," I said with a small laugh, I didn't feel like explaining it to him at this moment.
"Why's there money in it?" He asked suspiciously.
I shrugged. "Kendra? I'm leaving now, is mom or dad home?" Robbie walked in the front door, holding his car keys. Thank god he interrupted Zayn and mine's conversation.
"Yeah, mom's home," I lied. Zayn adjusted his body awkwardly, knowing that I was lying also, "where are you going?" I pinned the question back on Robbie.
"Jordan's," he answered while walking into the house more. Jordan was his girlfriend and she was going through a hard time due to her grandma's death a couple days ago. I tried blocking him from walking in more, I didn't want him to know that no one's home.
"Oh, tell her I'm sorry about her loss," I said sympathetically.
He nodded and tried to get in the house more, "I want to talk to mom," He barged in. If he found out that mom wasn't home he'd probably make me go to Jordan's with him just so I couldn't see Zayn.
"Okay," I breathed out preparing to get yelled at about lying. He called out but there was no response.
"I hear her, is she in the shower?" Robbie asked me. Is she in the shower? How is that possible? No one was home besides us, how could he hear running water?
"Ye-yeah," I hesitated, choking out the words. Zayn just stood next to me, having his arm dangled down next to his sides.
"Ah. Okay. Well don't do anything stupid," Robbie walked over and kissed my forehead. I nodded and gave him a hug. "Nice meeting you Zayn," he put out his hand and offered Zayn to shake it.
"Pleasure to meet you, also," Zayn said as he gave Robbie a firm handshake.
Robbie walked back over to the door and opened it up, "feel better Kengy," and then he was off with a slam of the door. I took a deep, loud breath out, amazed I got away with my lie.
"What did he mean by feel better?" Zayn asked as he walked over to the couch and sat down.
"Uh," I was racing my mind for an excuse, "my stomach's been hurting." Another lie.
I was afraid to tell Zayn that I have sarcoma because last time I told someone other than family, which was Taylor, they made a huge joke about it and then they ended up leaving. I did not want that to happen with Zayn, I had a strong connection with him that I had with no one else.
"Want me to rub it?" He offered, patting the seat next to him on the couch.
"Sure. One second," I ran up the staircase, searching for the source that caused Robbie to think that our mom was taking a shower.
I walked around the second floor, not hearing a thing. How can this be? "What are you doing?" I heard Zayn scream from the bottom floor.
"Looking for something, I'll be down in a second!" I hollered back as I wandered into my room. Suddenly, I heard something that sounded like running water from my parent's room. I ran back out of my room and into theirs.
"What is it?" Zayn said, breathing a bit more heavier than usual from coming up the stairs.
"Shh," I hushed him, trying to listen for the running water sound. I walked over to the one side of the bed and found Riley rolling around on a plastic bag which somehow, sounded like a shower.
"You have a dog?" Zayn said while running over to her. Riley immediately started to bark at him, considering he was a stranger.
"Shut up!" I hissed at her.
"No. Kendra its fine, she's just excited," Zayn insisted as he was petting Riley behind the ears and patting her on her head.
I gave him a smile. That dog saved my ass today, if it wasn't for her, Robbie would have been so angry with me.
"So, want me to rub your tummy now?" He asked, jumping up from Riley.
My stomach didn't hurt really at all. It was more just that my chest hurt and so did my head but I'll give any excuse just to have him touching me somehow. "Do you mind?" I asked, hoping he'd say no. I just really needed someone to talk to today.
"Of course not," he grabbed my hand and pulled me close to him, our lips were so close to toughing, "which room?" I felt his hot breath on my cool lips, his breath smelled like mint.
"Mine," I pulled away leading him into the hall and then arriving in my room. I grabbed my remote and tossed it to him, "any thing speacil?"
"No. You can choose!" He handed it back to me.
"Oh, sweet," I started to flip through the channels, looking for something good.
I heard swooshing of my bed, "you have a water bed?" He yelled in excitement.
"Yeah," I replied, looking over at him, with a giggle.
"Your laugh is so cute," he said with a huge smile.
I crept up over to him, falling into his arms. Somehow, this felt perfect. He put his left hand on my stomach and started to move it in circular motions.
"I hope you feel better," He said while looking at my stomach.
"Thanks," I answered with a laugh. All I wanted to do was roll on top of him and smother him with kisses, I held myself back though.
"I need to know something.." Zayn breathed out.
"What do you mean?" I asked, not knowing what he meant.
"Why did you have money in that bucket?" Zayn looked at me with suspicion in his dark brown eyes.
"I have this thing, I don't know," I drifted off, turning my eyes away from his stare. I couldn't dare have the chance of him leaving.
"What is it?" He stopped moving his hand on my stomach and brought it up to my chin.
I groaned, "nothing!"
"Tell me!" He growled back.
"I just can't!"
"Please," he said slowly.
I didn't feel like explaining a lot about it so I just spit it out, "I have cancer."
