Stella
"So, uh, what do you-what do you want to do?" Shay asks as she sits by my window, thankfully mother is out so she won't ask about how the study is going and father is packing right now for a trip he's going on.
I wanted to talk to him. But I didn't want him to think I was meddling or still involved somehow with Hudson.
But I had to. He could be in danger.
"I'll be back" I tell Shay walking over to my father's room, knocking on the door, he tells me to come in and I do.
"Father" I say to him, closing the door behind me. "Have you heard about Irvin Young?"
"I have." Is all he says.
I couldn't exactly tell him how I knew he used to go to school with Irvin niether could I tell him why he needed to be careful.
"Did you know him? I hope he wasn't a close friend of yours" I say instead.
"Not exactly, Stella, what is this about? Why are you voicing concern over someone you barely know, why do you pause your tutoring session for this illogical conversation?"
Of course. This wouldn't end well so I figured it was best to get out of the room.
"Sorry." I reply about to walk out but he stops me, in high hopes for him to say something comforting I turn around, but instead I'm met with a, "You said you would do better Stella"
I smile. "I'm sorry, father, forgive me. Enjoy your trip and please be careful"
I say before walking out of the room.
Sometimes speaking to my father, I feel suffocated or like I'm pretending to be someone I'm not. I walk back into my room and Shay is now standing up and looking through the window.
"You know Stella.." Shay speaks. "I hope we can be friends"
I look at her, "Friends?" Well this is new.
"Yes, friends" She laughs."You say it like it's an unusual word"
"It kind of is" I say going over to my bed. "I've never had a female friend"
I've never even had a friend before Hudson. But now I find myself wanting to be more.
"What? Never?"
I shake my head."No. But I hope we can be also"
She looks at her watch, "I guess our time is up"
"Good-bye then Shay"
"Bye Bye Stella"
.
.
.
"Stella, I'll be leaving" Father says."I will walk you out" I say, I hope he can see that his daughter is still something here, and for a short while I see a hint of surprise flash across his face. He noticed my attempt.
He nods before we both walk out of the house, "Your mother called saying she would be back by ten"
I nod before I watch him walk towards his car and drive off.
I walk into the kitchen to make something to eat. I suddenly feel like baking.
As I'm pouring flour into a bowl my phone rings. I answer it putting it on speaker, "Hi" Is what I hear as soon as I answer the phone.
"Hello" I reply to Issac. "How've you been?"
After Issac and I gotten over our differences I gave him my number.
"Fine, actually, I need to talk to you about something, mind if I come over?"
"No problem" I reply to him.
After a few minutes, Issac gets here, "Hey" He says walking into the kitchen.
"Hello Issac"
"Something smells really good" He praises dipping his finger into the chocolate.
I gently slap his arm, "Issac" I say. "Wait until I'm finished"
"Fine" He sighs.
"So what did you want to talk about?" I ask Issac as I walk over to the oven to put the pie in.
"Uh..it's my boyfriend, Shane, we uh, we had an argument"
"Oh oh, what happened?"
Issac begins talking to me, telling me that everytime they have plans Shane keeps blowing him off and find something else to occupy his time.
"Well have you talked to him about the way your feeling?"
"He keeps saying I'm overreacting"
"Well he should be considering your feelings in all situations"
I try my best to provide comfort to Issac, it's not like I was an expert in the relationship field.
"Exactly" He agrees throwing his arms in the air. I hear them fall, slapping his thighs.
"Well I hope it works out" I tell him.
"Me too" He says, I smile at him, "Do you feel better now that you've expressed yourself?"
"I feel lighter actually, thanks for asking" He smiles, "So what about you Stella? Who is the mystery man...or woman..I don't judge"
I laugh. I don't think I trust Issac enough to tell him about Hudson. We aren't that close yet. I only told him about the phone as it was harmless, but if I told him about Hudson and he mistakenly let it slip to my parents, it would be war.
"No. Nobody" I tell him. Issac and I spend some time talking and by the time the pie is finished, Issac finds a movie for us to watch: Love, Simon.
It was a really good show.
"I love this movie" Issac says shoving a piece of the pie into his mouth.
"I can see why" I say before drinking my orange juice, I'm interrupted by my phone ringing. I answer, "I miss you"
"I miss you more" I can tell he's smiling while saying this.
"Do you really?" I answer.
"Yes, Stella. I mean it" He breathes out.
"Issac came over" I say. Hudson is silent for a little while, so I say something, "We're not together anymore Hudson..but my parents don't know that"
"Stella, I really hope it's absolutely clear that I really want to be with you"
This makes me smile widely, "I understand Hudson, I feel the same"
He sighs before telling me he was going to do something.
I hope he wasn't upset that I was spending time with Issac. It really would be very unfair.
I understand how it might seem but I just needed to explain deeper I guess. I can't handle Hudson being upset with me.
