Chapter Six- Bonding

The referee told me to get on my horse so that he can start the race. I nod at him weakly before turning my head to look at Dog poo nervously. Why am I doing this again? I asked myself as I debate with myself internally whether me backing out is worth facing Emma wrath.

When I look at Emma, standing at the side, she gave me an encouraging smile, telling me that I will be fine. When I still stood there, she glared at me, urging me to get on the horse. I sighed when I realize that I have no choice, seeing that there are so many people gathered to watch, and also the fact that Max is giving me a smug smile, looking at me like I'm a loser.

I take a deep breathe and slowly put my hand on Dog poo. I will not give him the satisfaction of laughing and mocking me just because I'm scared to ride a horse. It's so not worth it.

I climbed up onto the horse shakily as I swung my leg over Dog poo, being careful to hold on tight in case I fall. I close my eyes and take a deep breathe again when I finally manage to sit upright.

"Don't stress yourself so much if you're scared, might as well back out now so that you don't make a fool out of yourself." Max whispered to me, quite smugly I must say, which made my blood boil.

I turn my head and glare at him, "I will race you and I'm going to win. Just you wait."

He throw his hands up in mock surrender as the referee told us to get ready. The crowds starts to count down.

Go!

I hit Dog poo as I have no idea how to make a horse go forward. I just remember seeing the hitting thing on tv where most riders hit their horses to urge them to go forward. Don't they? Anyways, Dog poo speed forward fortunately.

Due to the sudden acceleration, I lost my balance and started to wave my hands around, trying to grasp onto something to hold on. When I finally got my balance back, I clutch onto Dog poo's mane tightly, holding on for my dear life, afraid of falling off.

Too busy trying to calm myself down, I forgot the fact that I was in a race, with Max, until the crowds started to cheer louder. I then look up to see Max ahead of me. Just at that moment, he turned his head and smirked at me in triumph while I glare at him, determination coursing through my veins.

I urge Dog poo to go faster as I bend my body as low as I can, letting the wind blow past me. Dog poo is galloping so fast that my hair was flying wildly around me, giving me a sense of freedom. A sense of happiness. I felt so free then. If not for the race, I think I would have liked riding a horse, never in my life have I felt like this.

Like I'm flying, floating, so free, like I have no worries at all. I almost close my eyes at the sensation but the finishing line caught my attention and I scolded myself for not being focus.

Max is still ahead of me as the finishing line is slowly closing in on us. I urge Dog poo to go even faster as we race to catch up with Max.

Just a little bit more...

Just like that, Dog poo and I zoom past Max and past the finishing line in the last second as the crowds went wild. Emma was screaming in ecstasy while grams was whooping.
