Chapter Seven- I hate etiquette lessons [Part 2]
"Evie-" grams shouted again.
"I'm here grams! I'm here!" I interrupted her before she can say anything else.
She took in my state when I walk up to her, my dripping wet hair, with only a towel draped across my shoulders. "I see you've been swimming." I nodded.
"But that is not important! Now is not the time to have fun darling! We need to get you a suitor!"
What? Is this the 1800? Who still has suitors these days?!
"I will specifically choose some guys for you based on their information and you will see if they are suitable to be your fiancé." she continued, unaware of my distasteful look.
"Or how about this darling?!" She suddenly clapped and turn towards me with an excited look on her face.
"We can choose together! We will look through all those who are eligible and then you will date them throughout the summer, to see who is best suitable!" She exclaimed.
I groaned. "Grams! Must we really do this?"
"Yes! You're not that young anymore darling! And I'm getting old!" She scolded.
"Grams!"
"What? It's true! And I want grand babies soon! Don't you know? In my time, women would have been married at 15 or 16!"
"Grams! Your time and mine is different! This is the 21st Century! Who does this kind of stuff anyways?! People marry by their choice! Not just randomly."
"You are marrying by choice darling! I am letting you choose who you want to marry!" Grams exclaimed, clearly impatient with me, but what am I suppose to do? Even though I might not be the one getting married in the end, the poor girl, Evelyn Santiago will! And what if we have totally different taste in guys?! Omg, it's going to be a disaster then! That poor girl is going to be miserable for her whole life!
"I don't want to hear anything anymore." Grams held up her hand when I open my mouth to protest again. "I've already decided, I won't change my mind no matter what."
I slumped my shoulders forwards, sighing in defeat.
Well I tried. I'm sorry Evelyn. I tried my best but your grams sure is a stubborn old lady... I sincerely wish you all the best in your marriage...
I followed grams down the hall, to the movie theatre, or that's what I call it. The room sure looks like a mini theatre, with a gigantic screen in the middle and five rows of seats.
She gestured me to sit down in one of the expensive looking chairs. I sat down at the second row and watch the screen, waiting for something to happen.
"Darling, I've asked my secretary to collect some information on some very fine young men. And I'm going to show them to you one by one. Their family background, their hobby, their jobs, how they look like and how old they are. And you will choose one of them." She turn to look at me sternly. "Do you understand?" I nod meekly.
"Great! Let's start!" She clapped happily.
I rolled my eyes and huffed. It's freezing cold in here and I'm only in my bikini. Does she expect me to freeze to death? At least let me change first sheesh.
"The first guys is...." She started as I cross my arms over my chest, not only from the cold but also due to annoyance.
Oh boy this is gonna take a while.
