Mixed Emotions

Chapter Four

RIA'S POV*few days later*

I wake up and get ready for school. I put on my uniform as well as my shoes. I braid my hair before making breakfast. I feed Hua & put on some clothes for him.

"Ria, tiaki o nga ētahi atu (take care of the others)" she tells me. I nod before walking out the door with Hua.

We meet the others outside, (Shaun, Hoani, Lani, Drew & Lebron).

"Hey, cuz. Hunter said all the girls are gonna go after him" Lebron laughs.

"The only females he's attracting are the ducks" I joke.

We all walk and drop of Hua before entering the school gates.

"Otahuhu. Get ready for the Flavell's" Shaun says dramatically like it's in a movie.

I take them to the office first for their schedules and stuff. Me & Lani have all our classes together, so does Hoani but we don't have Art & Science together. I walk the twins to their class first before joining Lani. We have art first.

"Lani, this is Suliana, Suli this is Kailani" I introduce them to each other.

"So your Ria's cousin" Suliana asks. Lani nods.

We walk to art. Art is boring.... As usual. Next was our free, so we make our way to the library following everyone else. We sit on one of the tables & just talk.

"Hey, who's the guy with Matt?" Suli turns my face to where Matt is.

"My annoying brother Hoani" Lani dryly answers.

"And who's the one with Hoani?" Lani asks.

"Ria's boyfriend" Suli teases as I shoot a death glare.

Most of us, well all of us, spend our free by gossiping or playing sports n stuff. But me? I sit in a corner and just read. Books are an escape, a passageway to a make believe place.

After our free was Geography. Mr let us get straight into working and since Hunter & Lani didn't have partners, they were partnered up.

"I don't what to be with your ugly face" Hoani complains.

"We have the same face, stupid" Lani argued as they took a seat on he table to my left.

"So you guys are cousins" Matt leans over, his breathe sends shivers over my arm.

"Yeh" Lani answers before the start to work. Me & Matt decide to do the same.

"Far, if I was born back then, I would get my taonga (greenstone) & make them regret calling us savages, aye" Matt says. All I do is nod. We work on the project & record what Captain Cook said.

"Are you allowed to come to mine and work or?" He asks.

"I think so. They can take care of Hua, but I'll ask" I answer.

"Hey, can I go over to Matt's for project?" I turn to ask my cousins.

"No you ca-" Lani interrupts Hoani by smacking his head.

"Yeah sure cuz" she gives an innocent smile.

"I guess I can" I reply turning back to Matt.

We are dismissed and now on our lunch break. All the others find a seat on a table & eat while I look for Lebron & Drew. I can't find Drew but I spot Lebron besides on dog the picnic tables.

"Hey cuz" I walk up to him.

"Gap it Ria" he tells me. What a rude one? I should give him a hiding.
