The darkness.
This was the first thing Helja noticed as she observed where she was. She had absolutely no idea how she got here. One moment she had her nose deep in her research on Norse mythology, and the next she found herself in this dark, bottomless cave.
She swallowed as she slowly spun around in search of a point of light. She could barely make out her hands through the dim light. All she could see was that kind of even darker opening.
It wasn't long before she felt her heart race as she fully realized the situation she found herself in.
Suddenly, a flash of light blinded her. She immediately raised her arms in front of her face to barricade herself from the beam of light in panic. She was literally paralyzed by the situation itself.
What was she doing here?
What was this very place?
Better yet, how did she get here?
When nothing happened, she gently lowered her arms to her side just to let a sudden sigh at the sudden drop in temperature. The bottomless pit was now lit by a sort of suspended chandelier ceiling. Except they were literally suspended in thin air. There were no rigging points, no walls and no pitons to support them. She felt like she was in some sort of Harry Potter remake.
She let out another shaking breath before crossing her arms against her chest in an attempt to warm herself at the sight of the condensation leaving her lips. She rubbed her arms in an effort before throwing another troubled look around her.
It was literally impossible.
She spun around again in search of a way out of this nightmare.
There was absolutely no possibility that this was her reality. She must have been dreaming.
Unfortunately, she was quite used to these night terrors. She had had enough realistic dreams to know when she was dreaming or not. From a young age, Helja had always suffered from a dream that was a little too realistic for her good.
It had been so long since she had had one that she had started to believe she had gotten rid of it.
Obviously, it wasn't.
Realizing that she had no choice but to endure her dream, Helja tried to regain control of her heartbeat as she took a deep, shaky breath. She swallowed before squinting at the entrance to the huge crevice carved into the rock structure of the cave."Hell ? Anybody's there??"
However, it was not long before she realized her mistake.
There was a reason Helja had always been terrified of her life-size dreams.
A sudden hissing sound startled her.
She spun sharply on her heels in search of the source of the noise before jumping again at the hearing of another growl sound accompanying the hissing sound.
She had absolutely no idea where they came from but one thing was certain, it sounded very strangely like animal sounds. Her best guess, the hiss was that of a snake while the growl sounded like that of a dog. Or maybe even a really big wolf.
Helja shuddered in realization before tripping over her own footsteps on her own. It wasn't long before she let out a small cry as her back touched a hard surface before suddenly pivoting on her heels in a start. She immediately brought her hands to her lips to keep from making another silly noise at the sight of the rocky surface in front of her. It was only a wall of the cave.
