"Can I come in?"
Helja immediately looked up from her book at her mother's sudden call before frowning as Turid allowed herself to enter despite her lack of response."Well, come on in! Make yourself at home."
"Really, Helja?" Turid huffed as she walked over to her daughter with raised eyebrows."You're gonna give me the silent treatment for a long time?"
The platinum blonde immediately crossed her arms over her chest before giving a sarcastic look at her mother."I don't know. You're going to force us to live here for a long time?"
Turid immediately gave her a silent look as a warning, letting Helja roll her eyes lightly.
"Well, you have your answer then."
Nevertheless Turid seemed decidedly determined to repair the broken link as she settled at the foot of her daughter's bed. Helja gave a discreet look at her mother with a puzzled frown before clearing her throat as she looked back at her book visibly embarrassed by her mother's silent observation.
Turid stood for a moment without saying anything as she watched her daughter reminding her of herself at the same age before standing up, giving a look around the room. To her surprise, Helja had added her own decorative touch. Well, somewhat. She had pasted old family photos lit by a garland over her headboard. Most were made up of their small families of four. Some were only with Laurits or Magne, others with both and sometimes the four of them were in the pictures. The mere sight brought a faint nostalgic smile to Turid's lips.
She rested for a moment on her daughter which was making a remarkable effort to ignore her before resuming her observation.
She saw a growing pile of books trailing at the feet of her bedside table. Helja had even taken the trouble to hang pots of greenery here and there.
Despite everything, Turid knew that Helja was making an effort.
So she couldn't really afford to rush her further. Despite what her daughter thought, Turid knew her children. She knew it was going to take time but Helja would end up coming back. She just needed her space.
With that thought in mind Turid got up from the bed before getting ready to turn around. This immediately challenged Helja as she took advantage of her mother's back to give her a sad look.
Only Turid wasted no time in pausing with a slight frown as she pointed the stuffed wolf at the feet of her daughter's bed." It's new ?"
Helja's eyes widened visibly taken on the fait accompli for a moment before she quickly lied."I bought it before I left. Not that you realized it."
"Helja." Sighed Turid, exhausted."I'm trying to understand you."
"Don't bother yourself." Helja snapped sharply on impulse.
Turid swallowed visibly hurt by the words of her daughter before just nodding. She gave one last look at her before turning back towards the door. Helja pursed her lips in guilt as she followed her retirement before trying to avoid her gaze as she turned to her one last time.
