He was sitting there reading a book when she walked in. Something about her caught his eye. Maybe it was the ring on her finger. Or maybe it was the bruise on her cheek. Or maybe it was the way she limped. Or maybe it was the fact that she smiled.

He watched her until she disappeared behind rows of books. He quickly stood up to go and see her again.

Her hair was in a loose pulled back tie. The girls on her firey hair looked sheer in the sunlight, emitting fire flames. Her eyelashes pointed up almost touching this tip of her eyebrow. She was tall, but not taller than he. Her nose curved off like a water slide and her lips parted as she mouthed the words.

He went next to her, skimming along the books, trying not to seem creepy.

She went to reach up for a book, but she couldn't quite reach. Cliche, I know, but he went up to her anyways and grabbed the book for her. She smiled warmly at him.

"Thank you." The voice of 1000 angels filled his ears. Her voice was a little raspy but still sounded cute and love able to him. He nodded and smiled at her.

As he watched her walk away, he sighed and placed his head on the shelf.

Another day he was walking to go get his daily coffee when he saw a girl with a new bruise on her face. He looked closer at her and realized it was the girl from the library. He felt his heart do a flip and a spin.

Once he entered the Café, the owner recognized him and got his order ready. She gave him the bag and he went straight to the deck to eat. As he sat there, he saw a lady in a classy suit sit next to her. The light that came to the side of her face made her eyes speak more words that he couldn't hear. She sat there as the lady talked to her.

"Jessica," he finally figured out her name, "I know that you've been having a tough time, believe me I've been there, but we need this book done by the end of the month. Jessica's fave faltered but she chirped up.

"I can do 6 weeks." She placed a strand of hair behind her ear.

The lady sighed, "Fine. But if it not done by then, you're not getting anything from us." Jessica nodded and off went the lady.

He wondered as he drank his black coffee, what type of job she has.

A man came into his view. The mans aura screamed evil. He saw Jessica's face fall completely.

"Hi Kevin." Jessica greeted Kevin as she took a sip of her unknown drink.

"Hey baby."

He cringed, at the name that Kevin called Jessica. Jessica lifted her left hand to the other side of her, and reached down to grab her laptop. The ring on her finger glared at him as he observed. He then glanced at Kevin and saw a ring wrapped around fingers that looked bloody and bruised.

"Really? I invite you out for breakfast and you decide to work?!" Kevin's voice came to a low growl. He noticed Jessica flinch when Kevin gripped onto the metal table.

Wife beater.

He stood up and went over to the couple. He didn't think of a quick plan. "Hello."

What is he doing?

"You are Jessica, a writer correct?"

Jessica smiles as she looked up at him, "Why yes I am! Have you read my book Breaking Boundaries?"

"You see I was looking for it in the library one time, I think I saw you there." He noticed Kevin grip the table, almost bending it, but Kevin had a 'kind' smile on his face.

"Oh! You're the guy that helped me grab that book! Thank you for that!"

"You're welcome." He couldn't help but smile when she spoke so cheerfully. "I see you don't have a pastry, can I buy you one?"

Her eyes lit, but quickly dimmed. "Oh no! No I can't let you buy me anything, but thank you." He nodded and glanced at Kevin.

"I insist. Think of it as... a present..?"

Jessica giggled. "I guess I can't refuse a present. I'll come in with you, I'm quite a picky eater." Jessica stood up and he stood back, giving her room. He then followed her inside, placing a hand on her mid back.

"So what would you like?"

Jessica scanned the menu and the glassed area. "I think a chocolate muffin top sounds immaculate."
