Tw: Slight mention of abuse
Zak POVI laid in bed, running my hands through my hair. I heard Darryl walking around our apartment. We bought an apartment together, his parents helping with the expenses. My parents have never been the nicest so I wanted to move out as soon as possible.
They would do things like hit me, swear at me, and other things that I don't like to think about. The only person who knows about that is Darryl, and Dave. I heard a knock on my bedroom door, "Come in."
I saw the door open, revealing Darryl, "Just wanted to see if you were still awake."
"I was about to go to sleep now." I replied.
"Okay well goodnight." Darryl said, closing the door again.
I sighed and looked back up at my ceiling. Today had been an especially bad day, I had a huge test, and I failed. For some reason I couldn't seem to get thoughts of my parents out of my head. To make it even worse, my "friend" Vincent decided to be extra mean today, he decided it would be a good day to humiliate me in front of the whole school during lunch.
My eyes started to tear up, but I quickly stopped myself from crying.
You're being selfish, I thought, other people have to go though things so much worse than you, and here you are about to cry.
I sat up and sighed. I slowly got out of bed, going to tell Darryl about my day. I know he can always make me feel better. As I walked to my door I heard a bang from behind me. I whipped around and saw a rock come flying at my window.
I ran over to my window and opened it. Suddenly, a rock came flying at my face. I moved out of the way, just before it hit me, causing it to fly into my room. I looked out the window and there stood Dave.
"Sorry." He called out.
"You could've gotten me seriously hurt!" I said, even though I was laughing.
"Just hurry up and get down here, nerd." Dave said, smiling.
I ran back into my room and slipped on a hoodie and some jeans. I walked back to my window and matnoverd my way down. I hopped down and landed on the grass with a thud.
"Ow, I shouldn't have done that." I said, groaning.
I heard Dave laughing and frowned, "It's not funny."
"It was pretty funny." He replied.
"You have a bad sense of humor then." I said, "Now help me up."
Dave rolled his eyes and stuck out his hand, pulling me off the ground, "Come on, I have something special planned."
"Why'd you decide to do this today?" I asked.
"I could tell that you were having a bad day in school." He explained.
"We don't even have any of the same classes." I replied.
"I could tell just by seeing you in the hallway." He said.
"Oh, you know my so well." I said, sarcastically.
"Hurry up or we're going to be late." Dave said, "You walk like a turtle."
"Fine then." I said, I took off running, "Last one there is a rotten egg!"
"You don't even know where we're going!" I heard him tell from behind me.
Oh right.
"Last one to the stop sign is a rotten egg!" I said, still running.
I ended up making it there first, with Dave running up to me, seeming out of breath.
"This really says a lot about our society."
"Shut up."
*woosh*
We walked up to a building I had never seen before. It had a glowing sign at the top that said, Round 1.
"Isn't this like an arcade?" I asked.
"Maybe." He said with a smile.
I felt excitement flood through me and I ran inside. There were glowing lights everywhere and music played through the building. I looked at Dave as he looked around the place.
I hesitated before wrapping my arms around him, taking him by surprise.
"Thank you so much, this is awesome." I mumbled into his shirt.
I heard him laugh and say, "Your welcome, you deserve it."
I smiled and let go, turning around and running into the arcade. We spent hours running around, playing the games.
*woosh*
I climbed back through my window and waved to Dave.
"Bye, Zak." He said.
"Bye, thank you." I shouted before closing my window.
I changed out of my clothes and got back into bed. I smiled while hugging the stuffed animal Dave won me.
Today wasn't as bad as I thought.
