Zak POV
I heard them yelling for what seems like the 100th time today. All they ever do is fight, all I hear is constant screaming everyday. I don't know how my sister is able to ignore it, because I can't. I need a break from this, they wouldn't notice if I ran away for a bit. They're too distracted anyway.
I stood up and opened my bedroom door quietly. I snuck out of my room and past the kitchen, where my parents were. I ran to the back door and opened it, walking out quickly. As I shut the door behind me I could still hear them arguing from inside.
I sighed, walking away from the house, their voices slowly becoming quieter until I couldn't hear them anymore. I kept walking until I reached a familiar place, it was the place I always go to when I'm upset. It's a small, secluded area right in front a lake.
It's always so peaceful there because not many people know about it. It's even better at night because it's completely quiet and I'm able to sit and think through things.
I walked up to the place and heard some movement.
Is someone there?
It's almost 2 am, who would be here this late?
I approached the area and saw someone sitting on the grass, right in front of the lake. I hesitated before walking over to them and sitting beside them.
They seemed startled but calmed down quickly, "Hello."
"Hi, I'm Zak." I said, quick to introduce myself.
"I'm Darryl." He replied, "What are you doing here so late at night?"
"I could ask you the same thing."
"That's fair."
"So why'd you come?" I asked.
"I just like to come here when I'm bored." Darryl explained, "How about you?"
"I come here when my parents are fighting." I replied, "It's quiet here." I don't know why, but I trusted him for some reason.
He frowned, "Oh, I'm sorry, do they fight often?"
I nodded, "Pretty much everyday."
"Well I'm glad you came." He replied, "Because I met you."
I smiled and for the rest of the time we sat in a comfortable silence, staring up at the stars.
