Darryl POV

"I heard there's a new kid coming." Vincent said, looking excited.

"Why does it matter?" I asked, "People come all the time."

"Here's our age, so we can finally have a new friend." Vincent explained.

"Wait, really?" I asked, "Wait do you even know that?"

"I have my ways." He said, laughing.

"Oh my goodness, you went into boss's office again, didn't you?" I asked.

He nodded and I gasped, "You know you can get in serious trouble, right?"

He nodded again, causing me to frown.

He should know by now that if got caught doing anything wrong we would get in huge trouble. The person who runs this place makes us call them 'boss' and makes us work for them. This isn't a normal orphanage, the people who work here are cruel, and treat the kids horribly.

I heard that once someone got locked outside for 2 days as a punishment. That's why I always behave, just in case it's true.

Vincent on the other hand is the exact opposite. He constantly is doing thing that could get him in a lot of trouble. Luckily, he hasn't got caught yet, I don't want to know what would happen if he does get caught.

I try to stop him but he never listens to me. Hopefully this new kid will be a good influence and help me convince Vincent that what he's doing isn't okay.

"Anyway, when's he coming?" I asked.

"Sometime tomorrow." He replied.

I smiled and nodded, most of the kids here are younger than us. It'll be fun to have someone our age.

I got here when I was 9 after my grandma died. I never knew my parents and lived with my grandma for most of my life. I just need to wait until I'm 18 then I can finally leave this place.

Vincent came a year after me when he was 8. His parents died in a car accident while they were on vacation. He was really quiet at first but soon enough he began talking to me and we got really close.

I heard the crackle of an old speaker, "Everyone go to the cafeteria."

I stood up with Vincent and we both began walking to the cafeteria.

*woosh to the next day*

"He must be coming soon right?" I asked Vincent.

"He'll probably be here before dinner." Vincent replied.

*another woosh*

I was sitting next to Vincent, just talking. For some reason I keep thinking about the new kid.

What will he be like?

Will he even want to be our friend?

What if he thinks we're annoying?

Suddenly I heard the door open and looked up. A boy got shoved through the doors by one of the workers. He had tan skin, black hair, and brown eyes.

He immediately went and sat at one of the small tables in the back.

"Let's go talk to him." I said.

Before we could, I heard the speakers, "All kids report to the cafeteria."

I sighed, we would just have to talk to him during dinner then.

*wooshwooshwoosh*

We walked into the cafeteria and I scanned the room for the new kid. I saw him sit at a table near the back corner.

"Should we go talk to him?" I asked.

"Yeah, come on." Vincent said, grabbing my arm.

Vincent pulled me across the cafeteria, towards the boy. Vincent sat down and I sat down beside him.

"Hi, I'm Vincent and that's Darryl." He said, pointing to me.

I gave a small wave and smiled, trying to be polite. I was kind of embarrassed at how excited Vincent was acting.

"So what's your name?" Vincent asked, now seeming a little calmer.

"Zak." The boy replied simply.

He was probably taken aback by our sudden approach, and I didn't blame him.

"How old are you?" I asked, breaking the silence.

"What do you guys want?" Zak asked, seeming annoyed.

"We just wanted to talk." Vincent said.

I sighed and stood up, "Come on Vincent, he doesn't want us here."

Vincent stood up, now looking sad. He clearly isn't the type of person I want to be around.

"It was nice talking to you." I said.

"No wait!" Zak exclaimed, "I shouldn't have said that, I'm just not in a good mood."

I smiled slightly and turned back around.

Maybe he isn't as bad as I thought.

I'm not sure if I like this one :|
