As it turns out, her job is to be the one that kills the Black Sky.
Evren has to sneak in the dark, Rot encasing her skin, waiting for the signal and to pounce. The shipping container is a rusty orange, somehow encasing whatever it is inside, so she can't even hear the heartbeat when she focuses. Rot huffs, slipping over her when she leaps off of the side of the building. That's where the old man, Stick, is, along with Matty- Matthew.
She keeps herself silent and light on her feet as she sneaks ever closer. Rot grumbles to itself. 'Hungry.' It rumbles, eyeing the many people standing around the storage container. She huffs, shaking her head within Rot. It doesn't make a move to get closer, simply following the plan and situating itself so it can lunge from the shadows and straight into the shipping container. The two wait, crouching, until the men begin to open it. They tense together, muscles coiling, before her heart drops even further in her chest.
He's just a kid.
She lunges for the men, batting their guns aside, rumbling from somewhere deep in her chest. Somewhere in the midst of the fighting, Matt appears, snarling as he fights alongside her, dwarfed by how tall she is.
Then they're all on the ground, leaving Rot hardly even heaving for breath. She twists, eyeing the empty container. The shackles are still bolted to the bottom. She shudders, twisting away. Those chains only serve as a remainder of the chains that held her down when she woke up with Rot inside of her, when she only knew Rot as the Thing.
She heaves herself up, making her way up to the roof. Stick is still there, but the man in black is long gone. The old man stares at her, sneering.
"You going to be a pussy like Matty, or are you going to do what needs to be done, and follow me?" She hesitates, before stepping back. The man scoffs. "Of course. You're too good to kill a kid, is that it?" He steps closer, broken bow left at his feet. "You're going to destroy the world, you and that thing inside of you."
She turns and leaps from the buildings, too angry to think, to afraid to wonder if he's right.
Does she chase after the kid, the Black Sky, and rip his throat out using Rot's teeth, or does she slink away until no one remembers her? Does she do what the old man says, or does she hide with no one but Rot, scurrying back to Matt's apartment, hiding away like a diseased rat?
She makes her way to Matt's apartment, slipping through the window and crashing against the floor. She just sighs, shutting the window. Matt sighs, from somewhere in the house.
"Do you not have a place to go?" The man snaps, tiredly, rubbing his hand down his face and through his hair.
"Don't think I'm allowed to go back." She says dryly, gesturing towards her stomach where Rot rests. It chuckles in between her ears, oddly threateningly, yet gentle. It slithers around her lungs and heart, gently holding onto her.
'No. You are not.'
"Yeah. Not allowed. I'd probably end up in a ditch somewhere." She jokes, popping her back. "Rot doesn't want me going back."
"Rot?" He asks, tilting and letting himself tumble onto the couch. She falls into a chair across from him, throwing her legs over the side. This man- one she has never met, or at least doesn't remember, holds more of her trust than she has in anyone else. Though, she doesn't have anyone else. No one except him and Rot.
"Oh, you know, the weird alien that I threw up?" She says, much too calm for her own comfort. "Yeah, it has a name. Rot. Weird, right?" She adds, flopping her arm over her eyes. They're silent for a while, before she finally speaks up once more. "He went after the kid." She says, all but murmuring. The man sighs, drawn out with a hint of pure despair.
