She hasn't been this nervous in a long time- not that she remembers.
'We'll be fine. Wear the black one. We look stunning in that one.'
"You're annoying." Evren snaps, though she tugs the black dress on, anyways. "I don't remember even buying this."
'It was a while ago. Hurry, hurry. We don't want to be late.'
"You're kidding right?" She snaps, nervously, glancing at the time. She scoffs. "We still have an hour and you'll get us there even faster than a car if you need to. Remember the rules?"
'Yeah, yeah. Don't talk out loud. Don't get annoyed because Ver has no concept of personal space and we do. Don't think about wringing Matt's neck.'
"Especially that one." She reprimands, staring at themselves in the mirror. "We- I look good. No talking as a plural. That's probably a red flag, even with rose colored glasses." Her thumb finds her stomach, pressing circles into it as she bites her lip. "Do you think this is fine?"
'James is dead. Matt is on a date with Karen.' It spits the last sentence, bitter and dark. She ignores the sudden switch in tone. 'And we have Ver and she is going on a date with us and we will enjoy it.'
"What if I fuck up?" She mutters, palms rubbing against her eyelids. Rot grunts.
'You've already had sex. You're being a child. A whiny antichrist.' She scowls. 'Do not look at us like that. You have nothing to be scared of.' At her smoldering, terrified glare, it softens. She can feel it turn to mush in her stomach, right beside her tightening stomach. 'We will be fine. Ver asked us to dinner, we said yes. She likes us. We like her. We will treat her to dinner and take her home and we will sweep her off of her feet and she will feel safe with us because we are unstoppable.' Rot states, straightening her spine. 'Now shut up, straighten that dress, put on those flats we got for this date, and calm down.'
With wide eyes, Evren does so, before a grin breaks across her features. "Are you sure you weren't the one ordering Ver around?"
'That was all you.'
She glances at the clock, face hot. "Should we go? Matt's date with Karen is at that fancy place, which is ridiculous because he can't afford it. He's so ridiculous. Going out of everyone's budget for Karen, of all people. We should go to that Indian restaurant." She pauses. "What if she doesn't like spicy food? Oh my god. I should have asked."
'It's fine.' Rot reprimands. 'We can offer to take her to two places, or have a backup. Not the one Matt is going to, that would be awkward and we don't want that.'
"No, we don't." She says, rubbing her stomach more. She finds herself nervously pacing, glancing at the clock every few seconds. "This is weird."
'Only because you're moving on with someone completely different that we are used to.' Rot states, somberly. She pauses, thinking of the many times she mused a future with Matt. It always ended bitterly. With Veronica, she avoids the future. 'James would be happy for you. I promise.'
She nods, slowly, looking at the clock a final time as she pulls her coat on, pushing her wallet in her pocket and sweeping her hair from under the collar.
"We got this. Totally. Yeah." She mutters, making her way out of the apartment, dropping her keys into her pocket, straightening her spine and her shoulders with a deep breath. "First get Ver, ask if she likes Indian, and then take her somewhere else if she doesn't. Easy peasy. So easy."
It isn't easy. Walking to Veronica's house, a little quaint thing with green paneling and plants everywhere and flowers bursting in her yard, Evren is near fainting from nerves. She hasn't taken anyone out for as long as she can remember- literally. Rot even supplied her with the little information that she's never taken someone out, period. She was always the one who was being swept off her feet, who fell hard and fast, and broke when they left.
