"He just stood there, like he was his friend." Karen growls as she throws open the door, Matt following, carefully holding onto the sleeve of her borrowed dress. There are tears and dirt all over the white fabric. She doesn't feel guilty about it. Afterall, Karen killed James. Her James. "Like he had nothing to do with what happened."

"I thought Ben said he didn't have any evidence. Ellison was taking money from Fisk."

"No, it makes sense. I mean, it explains... " She cuts herself off and sighs. Evren makes a show of shitting in the chair directly in front of the secretary's desk. "Do you know what makes this worse?" Karen says, softly, tucking hair behind her ear. "Foggy. He didn't even want to come." Karen glares at Evren, who flatly glares back into her eyes. "Evren got him to come." She snaps, scowling at the woman. Evren shrugs, innocently smiling.

"It's my fault, Karen. All of this with Foggy."

"No, everyone shares the blame in a relationship. That's... just how they say that it works."

"No, not always." Evren crosses her legs, setting her ringed hand on her knee, directly in Karen's sight. "Why don't you go home, get some rest, huh?"

"I-I can't." Karen murmurs, voice weak, dragging her fingers into her hair, drooping her head so low it nearly hits the desk. She sighs. "Every time I close my eyes, I see... What-What if he finds out that I...That I was with Ben at Saint Benezet. What if he found out I spoke to his mother, too?"

"If that happens, we will deal with it."

"How? I mean, the news barely mentioned what happened to Ben because Fisk pays off the media."

'He pays off everyone.' Rot tells Evren, huffing. Evren bites back a grin. 'There's no use in fighting him unless you destroy all of his assets from the ground up. Then eat him.' This time, she does smile, making it behind her hand and a fake yawn.

"And the police haven't arrested anyone for it because Fisk pays them off, too. Foggy was right. How do you stop someone like that, someone who has so much?"

"It just means he has more to lose." She chimes. "It'll be hard to take him down, but once it happens he'll never be able to climb back up."

"He's gonna find out what I did."

"Maybe." EVren interjects, cutting Matt off. "In that case, you'll just need to be prepared. If only you know that you went, don't say anything. And if anyone does," She stares right into the baby blue eyes of Karen. "kill 'em, right?"

Karen's heart races instantly, shoulders tensing. Evren taps her ring finger against her kneecap. Karen watches the motion, unable to tear her gaze away.

"He's going to find out, and he's gonna come after me. Just like he came after Ben."

"I told you I would keep you safe, Karen. When he came after you over Union Allied. That hasn't changed. Everyone's taken money from him, everyone that's helped him tear this city apart... they're all gonna get what's coming to them. Along with Wilson Fisk." He says, slowly turning, moving into his office. Karen stares after him, swallowing.

Evren gets up and follows after him. Each time she looks at Karen too long, or just being around her for too long, the urge to rip her throat out simply grows. The blond killed James- there's no doubt about it.

'If you kill her, Matt and Foggy will never forgive you. They will hate you.'

"Yeah, I know, Rot." She mutters, laying on the floor, turning her back to Matt, who slumps at his desk. She throws her arm over her eyes, wishing for a dreamless sleep. She brings the ring closer to her chest, sighing as she tries to make herself sleep. Agony that she can hardly describe in piercing her chest with a sickly cold that leaves her shivering.
