Chapter 16: Salem, Ethan's cat

"How are you doc? You good?" Rue just came out from the administration room with a bunch of papers.

I was checking on the yesterday paper in the front table while she handover the list of today's patients. "You tell me, how was it?" I still scanning the yesterday paper. "Wow we got a lot of patients yesterday. And you worked by yourself."

She scoffs "you wish! I reschedule some pets reservations cause I'm sorry, you are the only doctor aka the vet we have!"

"Okey okey, I'm sorry!" I'm laughing to her respond.

"Please check yesterday's patients papers for me. I'm afraid I didn't do the right procedure. I don't want to kill the pets just because of my stupidity. I'm not a good veterinarian like you."

"I already checked it," I re-open the papers from yesterdays patients data. "you're doing a good job. And I can tell you were wise enough to suggest the pet with really serious problems to another vet. I don't know should we feel lost about it," she's frowning. "Or, you are so kind and genuinely really want to safe the animals." I smile to her. Her face now brightened. Rue is the freshman from my major. Yes, we go to the same uni. And she's talented. I can tell she's so smart. Maybe that's why the owner hire her. For now she handle the administration and the front line. But I'm sure she'll be a good veterinarian in the couple of years.

I go the the cage room as usual to check all the pets health. There's not a lot of pets here today. It's only 2 dogs and they are barking when I come in. I know the puddle is Ms. Chu's pet. And the golden retriever is Mr.filipe's new pet that he brought yesterday for the vaccine. They are barking so loud. I realized they are not barking at me. But to the cage behind me.

I didn't see anything in that cage. I don't know since when this part of cage is so dark. I need to ask Rue for a new lamp for this room. I was about to leave the room when I think I saw something moving from the dark inside the cage.

I take a look at the cage, it's just dark. I pinch my eyes to see something moving inside. Then I saw a pair of blue eyes came out from the darkness and feels like want to eat me. I fall down to the ground surprised by those eyes. Oh my god. It's a cat! A black scary cat! Need a moment for me to pull my self together.
"Rue! I don't remember we have cat on your list." I yell with my heavy breath and still on the ground.

"What cat?" Rue comes in to the room and she's surprised to see me on the floor. "Oh my God what happened?" She helps me to stand.

"I was surprised by that creature." That cat stares at me with that scary eyes. I don't have any phobias with cat, like obviously, but why it feels so strange with this one. "We didn't have cat on the list." I handover the paper to Rue to check.

"I forget to tell you, a guy came yesterday with him.."

"Him?"

"Yes, the cat is him. May I continue?"
I roll my eyes.
"This guy came really late when I was about to close the vet. And he said he knows you that's why he insisted to keep his cat here. He said you wouldn't mind cause he had your permission before."

"We are not sheltering pet Rue beside I don't think I have friends or relatives who have pet especially cat. Except Paris." I was thinking about Zer when I said that. Sorry Zer!

"I'm sorry, but you can check yourself and decide if you know him or not. Cause he's here, in your room. Already waiting for you because he's our first patient."

"Alright, can you bring the cat along to my room please."

"Why? You scared of cat now?"

Yes just the cat. "No how can I? I just need to take some paper."
