Kenneth sat patiently at his wife's bedside waiting on her to wake up and for her doctor who he saw when he came in, to come explain what was wrong. He had come about five hours ago to find his children eating alone. He greeted them but only Minnie and Lwandile replied while Owethu just starred at him. He noticed her eyes were red and puffy, just like her mother's after crying a lot. He ran upstairs to his bedroom and the site he found there shocked him. There was a fresh red blood stain on the floor and the room smelled like vomit. In the bathroom there was his wife's towel red with blood in a plastic bag. He knew it was hers by the embroidery on it.' Owethu where is your mother and what happened in my room.'
Lwandile and Minnie perked up their ears at the mention of their mother and the worried look on his face. They were still unaware that she was not even in the house, thanks to Owethu. When they asked why she had not come downstairs to eat, she had told them that she was not feeling well and they had left it at that. Did not even ask why Olwethu was not eating too because they figured it was one of those days.
' Can we talk in the kitchen.'
Owethu whispered and directed her father into the kitchen.
' Mom is in hospital. Olwethu drove her about an hour and half ago.'
' Why what happened?'
He pulled his daughter into a hug when she burst into tears scaring him. He soothed her till she was calm enough to answer her.
' I do not know. She called me upstairs and when I got there she was bleeding and said she felt dizzy. I helped her clean up and get dressed before Olwethu drove her to hospital. Daddy I know mommy and I are always arguing but I cannot lose her.'
' We're not losing her. So don't think like that.'
' Do you think the twins will be fine?'
' They will all be fine.'
He reassured his daughter and left for the hospital as soon as she was calm again. At the hospital he found his older son in tears in the waiting room. He hugged him like when he was eight as soon as he saw him walk into the waiting area. It was like he finally felt safe as he cried harder onto his father's chest. Olwethu was never the emotional one. The last time his father saw him cry was probably when he was thirteen or eleven. He could not remember clearly and it broke his heart to see him like this. Lwandile was the cry baby of the two and understood why his wife did not call them for help.
' I have been praying since I got here asking God to forgive me and spare mommy and the twins. I am sorry for what I said about her pregnancy. He can't take her away dad. I don't want to lose her dad. I can't. '
He sobbed. Kenneth had come to find out from his son that his mother had passed out as soon as they got to the hospital and they would not let him stay with her during resuscitation.
