With a gift in hand and in his best suit, Kenneth rang the doorbell at his former house. Once again he had come over for dinner. It was the first one this week since he was away on a business trip. To his surprise Nkuli opened the front door for him, she had not opened the door since they night he failed to make it on time on their first dinner arrangement. His children usually opened up for him.

' Oh, hi. Where are the kids?'

' Minnie is at a sleepover and the other three. I haven't seen since I got home.'

' And you're okay with this why?'

' They have been doing it for sometime now since we separated and I eventually got tired of arguing with them about it. They should be home in two hours though.'

' I still think I should talk to them. It's a school night Nkuli. You cannot just allow them do as they please. They are children and should listen to your rules.'

Nkuli quietly listened to him go on and on about letting stuff like this slide and how disrespectful it was for them to do such. Lord knows she had spent most of her days reprimanding them for their behaviour but it just made them worse. At first they stayed out late on Fridays and Saturdays but then it moved to Thursdays and frankly she just threw in the towel.

' How can you be so calm about this.'

' Because I've been exactly where you are and it only brought me gastritis and headaches. So I let them do what they want. Eventually they'll learn the hard way.'

' Nkuli they're kids.'

' Like the African proverb says, the child who refuses to heed the warning if his or her parents is buried with branches of the fan palm or something like that.'

' Where did you hear that one?'

Kenneth laughed as she shrug her shoulders and ushered him into the backyard where she had prepared a table for two. It was not a romantic setting but cosy.

' Okay. I need to get out of town more. Just to come back to this.'

' Ready to eat or do you still want to attack me for being a bad mother.'

' That's not what I was doing though. I just meant that you shouldn't let them walk all over you.'

Nkuli quietly placed the appetizing meal infront of him before she sat down with her own. He noticed that her legs were on either side of his and kept brushing him as she quietly ate. He loved the sensation it caused him even though he felt her through his pants.

' That was delicious. A week with no home cooked meal feels like eternity. Oh almost forgot. Happy Valentine.'

' It's the fifteenth Kenny.'

' Okay then can I have my gift back. '

She pulled back the box when he playfully tried to take it from her.

' I'll open after I discuss something with you.'

' Okay. What?'

' I don't know how to say this so I'm just going to say it_'

' Nkuli I hope this is not bad.'

' Relax. It's nothing bad. I want you to move back in with us and back into our bedroom.'

' Are you sure?'

' Yes I am sure.'

She said handing him the house spare key.
