New Beginnings

Chapter 17

Natasha's POV

We have been driving for about 5 hours now, Kenzie fell asleep about 2 hours into the ride, she was leaning on my shoulder but my arm started going numb so she's now on my lap. I'm just looking at her, my hands playing with her hair.

"You okay Nat" Clint asks me putting his hand on my shoulder.

"Yeah just thinking about Kenz." I tell him honestly.

"what about exactly" Clint asks me

"I guess just everything she's been through, she's 17 and has had this much trauma happen to her, it's not fair." I say to Clint, I don't want her to have the same childhood as me.

"I know it's not fair but we can't change what happened in the past, we just have to be there for her in the future." Clint tells me, I run my fingers over the scar that's on her head from the surgery she had to have to reduce some of the swelling.

"we are almost here now, do you want to wake her," Clint asks me

"I'll let her sleep a little longer, I think she's been having nightmares recently," I tell him. After about 20 minutes we are pulling up to there farmhouse.

"Kenz honey, time to wake up," I say to her shaking her shoulders a little, she groans a little before sitting up and opening her eyes

"when did I fall asleep," she asks me her voice a bit croaky still.

"about 2 hours in," I tell her. "Come on grab your bags from the back and lets get inside," I say to her. We grab all our belongings and Clint walks inside.

"Laura we're here!" he shouts into the house. A few seconds later she pops around the corner with 2-year-old Nathanial sitting on her waist.

"it's so good to see you guys," she says hugging me and Clint. Before she can say anything to Kenzie we hear loud footsteps coming round the corner.

"Uncle Clint!" gets shouted as two children come bursting around the corner.

They tackle Clint into a huge hug almost knocking him to the ground. I laugh at this making them turn their heads towards me "Auntie Nat" they scream engulfing me into a hug as well now.

"Hey Cooper, Lila, how are you doing," I ask them ruffling there hair.

"we are all good here" Lila replies, I smile down at them. I notice Kenz standing in the corner a little awkwardly.

"I want you guys to meet someone, this is mine and Clints daughter, Mackenzie," I say to the two of them. They gasp and I'm worried they see going to say something that will upset Kenzie.

"We have a cousin! That's so cool " Copper replies running over to hug Kenzie, I can tell she relived that they like her.

"come on guys you can play with Kenzie later, we need to let them get settled in," Laura said to the two kids who walk off with a pout. We go up the stairs to the usual room me and Clint stay in when we visit.

"Me and your dad are in here, your next door so come in anytime if you need us alright," I tell her.

"okay thanks, Mom," she says to me, I smile at her still happy that she thinks of me as her mom.

"no problem honey now go and in and unpack your stuff, I feel like you have a lot of playing to do with the kids," I say to her laughing a little at the thought of them all having a teacup party. Me and Clint go to our room and unpack our bags.

"I'm glad Fury gave us the week off, some time to switch off and spend with family," Clint says walking behind me and resting his head on my shoulder.
