Carol reread the text for the fifth time, still beyond shocked to see the contact on her screen. Her heart had dropped when she read it the first time and she continued to torture herself every time she did it again.
The blonde also felt mad at herself for hoping it could be good, hoping things would be better, but she knew now she shouldn't kid herself. Now things just felt worse than they had before.
Valkyrie had gone out with Thor for drinks and Carol had politely rejected the offer to join them. The pair spent so much time together and she didn't wanna get in the way of her girlfriend's friendship with the BFG.
But she needed Valkyrie now more than she ever had, she wanted a shoulder to cry on, arms around her, hands gently stroking her hair. She decided to wait for her and read through the text again, trying to analyse things that weren't there.
Dad: Your mother and I think it would be a good idea for you to drop by and collect the rest of your things. Seeing as you don't use the room anymore it would be good if we had that space. We'll be out Sunday if you want to come by then. Dad
"I don't even have the fucking keys anymore genius." Carol mumbled bitterly as tears clouded her vision. Did this mean her parents really didn't want her around them anymore. They had made it clear they didn't want to see her. The people who raised her, the people who loved her, had turned their backs on their only daughter because she liked girls. It wasn't fair.
Carol hastily put her earphones in and tried to drown out her thoughts with music. As the music blasted way too loudly into her ears she screwed her eyes shut to avoid more tears streaming down her face. It didn't work.
Carol wasn't sure how many songs in she was when she felt a gentle hand on her upper arm and a pair of concerned eyes meeting her own. Carol pulled her earphones out and threw her arms around Valkyrie before she could stop the tears. She cried into her girlfriend for a while without either of them saying a word. Eventually Valkyrie moved her body to lay down so she could rest Carol's head under her chin.
"I'm here." She whispered and kissed Carol's forehead softly. She wasn't sure how long they stayed like that for because before long Carol had cried herself to sleep.

Carol's eyes fluttered open and she smiled slightly when she saw Valkyrie looking down at her, still stroking her hair.
"Wanna talk about it?" Valkyrie asked in a gentle voice. Carol instead unlocked her phone that instantly brought up the message she'd been staring at and showed it to Valkyrie, watching her facial expression change from confused to suppressed anger (which always failed).
Carol got off Valkyrie's chest and moved to sit next to her against the bed rest. Valkyrie pulled the duvet over the pair of them and took a deep breath in before taking both Carol's hands in her own.
"We'll think of something, okay? We can figure this out." She said surprisingly calmly as she traced circles on Carol's hands. She nodded in response and rested her head on Valkyrie's shoulder. After a few minutes of silence Carol finally spoke.
"I can't bring everything here." She said, all emotion drained from he voice.
"What do you mean, Carol?"
"Everything in my room, I don't know what to do with it. I can't all go in here, I'll have to get rid of it all." But Valkyrie shook her head, sitting up a little.
"You don't need to do that. You could always, if you want, take it to my place. We have a spare room, it could be yours." Carol couldn't believe what she heard, that could really happen could it? There was no way something so bad could turn into something so good.
"You can't say that, Val. Your mum might hate the idea."
"Wanna know something about my mum?" Carol nodded. "Her parents hated her marriage with dad. From the first time she brought him home to the moment they died. They didn't approve of a white woman marrying a black man. So mum promised me she would support me and whoever I end up with, always. Well you're the one I've ended up with, Carol. You're the love of my life, I gotta look after my girl. Things are gonna be okay, I promise you that." She said as she gave Carol's hand a quick squeeze. "We'll sort this all out later, but for now we can stay here as long as you want." Carol could only nod again as her voice was nowhere to be found and tears were forming again.
I'm the love of her life, and she's the love of mine.
