Eva's surgery went on for ten hours, while Rush's condition was not looking good either. Doctors were unable to figure out what was wrong with him. They did all the test but they could not figure out the reason for his unconsciousness, which only meant that his unconsciousness was not because of physical pain, but it was because of something beyond the understanding of medics.
I called the pack witches to look for any other things that may explain Rush's condition. After looking at Rush for an whole hour, they came to the conclusion that Rush was under some kind of spell that had rendered his mind lifeless while he still breathed. The spell had left him in a coma like state.
Telling the witches to do everything it takes to figure out the way to break the spell, I went to check on Eva. The night passed and the next day came, but she did not wake up. The doctors had said that her condition was critical and if she did not come awake in the next twenty four hours, she will die.
I could not do anything but sit by her side, holding her hand and whispering anything and everything that could make her come awake, that could make her see that I was here for her.
Everything had froze for me. I could have done everything, could have given everything up if I had known that things would come to this. The world of happiness that I had imagined for all of us was nowhere in sight. Instead I had gotten sucked inside a dark well of darkness where no light seemed to reach me. It was hell.
The sudden sound at the door pulled me out of the stupor that I was in. Just as I turned around, I shot up from my seat, ready to attack as my wolf rushed to the surface in anger.
"Is she okay?" Aster asked gently, not surprised and offended at my stance of fight.
"What are you doing here?" I asked her cautiously.
I had seen what her father had done. I was not in a situation to trust anybody. Be it my official wife.
Without thinking I had shuffled closer to Eva's bed, ready to protect her if anything went wrong.
"Answer my question." I gritted through clenched teeth.
I was not exactly angry at her. This was the first time that she had come to see me since she had gotten the news of attack. I had expected her to attack me, abuse me, blame me for killing her loving father.
But there was nothing. No remorse, no pain, no tears or blames.
"Had you known about your father, Aster?" I managed to ask through harsh breaths, "Had you known what he was planning?"
Aster let out a heavy sigh, making me think that my suspecion was indeed true. She had known for sure. She had definitely known what her father was planning.
"I did not, Liam." she whispered gently while stepping forward to enter the room.
"Stay right fucking there!" I snarled, "Do not fucking dare to enter this room!"
I was not going to let her come into even a few feet distance from Eva and Rush. I did not trust her and I was not going to hide that away from her either.
Hearing my angry roar, she immediately stepped back with her hands raised up in the air in surrender.
"Okay, I will not!" she emphasized, trying to calm me down, "Let's just... talk!"
"Talk from there only." I gritted, "No more steps near Rush and Eva."
"Alright." She replied softly.
"I... I do not know how to tell you this Liam," her gaze slithered away to the unconscious body of Eva, watching the machines make the beeping noise,
"I did not know he was going to attack Rush and Eva. I swear! I... I just knew that he... he was not a good person. He was evil and I am actually happy that you killed him."
My shocked gaze snapped to hers. Was she lying?
"Are you fucking kidding me, Aster?" I immediately seethed, "Are you trying to fool me right now?"
"I am no lying!" Aster snapped, "I know you do not believe me but there are things that you do not know about. Things I hid from you and everyone."
"Like the attack of your father?" I snickered disbelievingly.
"No!" Aster shouted, "I am a hybrid, Liam!"
"What?" my confused gaze shot up to her, "What are you saying?"
She took a deep breath before replying, "I am a hybrid. A succubus- werewolf hybrid."
Suddenly everything that I felt every time she came near me started to make sense. I went blood crazed, horny and head over heels for Aster every time she was near me. In fact, every member of our pack was attracted to her as far as I could remember. Not a healthy, simple attraction. But the kind of attraction that had aroused many fights inside the pack.
"What does that have to do with your father?" I asked.
Aster's face looked like she was trying really hard not to answer my question. She did not want to. But then after a few seconds, she whispered,
"He was a abuser. My mom was succubus but she turned out to be his mate. Not having any other option he married her but all her life he obsessed over not having a werewolf as a mate. It was hard. Their marriage was a joke behind the closed doors of the pack, Liam."
She clenched her eyes shut, like trying to hide the emotions and feelings from me. Trying to forget about the memories that had resurfaced.
"After mom's death, when I was twelve, he went more crazy. He started to imagine me as mom. Abusing me sexually and emotionally for years!"
Aster's broken gaze lifted up to look at me as tears slipped out of her eyes, "I endured it because I was a kid alone in the world. I did not have anybody to turn to, anybody to make me understand that what my father was doing to me was not right, it was not moral. It was abuse."
