Liam's POV
Since the moment Eva had left the packhouse, my heart was not at ease. I had thought that going close to Aster, giving her the right that she deserved would make everybody happy. Even if it snatched my own happiness, I let my wolf take control of my body. That was the only way that I could make Aster get what she wanted from me. And it was not much. She only desired her happiness and I had to give it to her.
But then something happened and she stopped me from taking her. Her action had surprised, and in a corner of my heart, delighted me deeply because that was exactly what I wanted.
After that, both of us did not talk about it. Even so much as completely ignored each other. I did not know why she was distancing herself from me, but I was glad for it instead of getting upset.
As time passed by I tried to gather the courage to stay away from Eva but it was like there was a magnet between us that would not let me move far away from her. My life was revolving around her along with my heart.
With trembling hands and unsure mind, I decided to call her. So much time had passed since I had last heard her voice or seen her. Even if she hung up on me, I just wanted to know she was here, in my life around me.
As I dialled her number, barely a short ring later she picked up the phone. I did not even have the chance to say hello when a commotion from behind her alerted me. I instantly knew something was not right.
I shot up from the bed and immediately started running. My heart was literally thudding in my chest. Thankfully, she was not much far away from the packhouse. The phone was still on my ear as I was running at a speed that pushed the limits of my body.
"Eva, say something, baby." I shouted in the phone as the sound of glass smashing clashed against my ear.
"Please be alright." I prayed, running harder, "please... please be alright."
But I knew nothing was alright. I knew something was very, very wrong. I knew my heart was ripping in half and I was about to lose my head.
And then I heard the voices.
"You should have left when I gave you the chance. Your stupidity has brought you to this point of no return."
"Mason? What is going on?"
What the fuck was Alpha Mason doing there? What the fuck was he doing to Eva?
"I gave you warnings! I gave you time and threats to get out of here before my patience runs out. I crushed your house to the ground. I did everything to make my daughter's life happy. I had to go through so much!, to make my Aster happy! But it clearly seems like you and Rush are surely not ready to take the fucking hint, are you?"
No, no, no, no! Was it happening because of me? Had I brought ourselves to this? Had I put Eva and Rush's lives in danger?
"Let me go." I heard her whimper. Her voice hit me like arrows made of poison, "I and.. R.. Rush will leave. Please."
In those moments, I would have given everything, even my life to rewind our lives and go back to the moments that had made us happy.
"You will not be left alive to leave, you fucking bitch. You will die here. And your fucking wild rutt of a mate is dying right now in the depths of jungles of this city. I am not fucking stupid to leave a fucking mated wolf to track me down for killing his mate."
Fuck!
Rush? Was he in danger too?
This could not be happening right now. This moment in my life was even worse than my worst nightmare.
Panicked, dishevelled, unstable, I threw the phone in the pocket of my jeans and crossed the distance between my feet and Eva.
Just as I crossed the threshold, the stench of blood hit my nostrils. My heart had jumped out of my chest. The home was quiet. Too quiet. Even the sound of Mason's voice had stopped. There was no movement, no sign of life.
The voices over the phone had scared me. But this silence terrified me.
I ran inside. I could smell the scent of Mason. Everything was broken and destroyed like an earthquake that had passed by and ruined everything in its way.
As I stumbled inside the hall, my gaze landed upon an beaten up, broken, bloody body of Eva. The sight that I would have never expected to see of even my worst enemy, was now I was seeing in Eva. She was lying in the pool of her own blood, unconscious, barely breathing.
And Mason was standing above her head with a shocked expression on his face, staring at me with an iron rod in his hands, the edge of the rod completely covered in blood.
That is when I saw red. I could not control what happened next. The only thing I knew was that I had turned into my wolf and attacked Mason.
Being an alpha, Mason was obviously stronger than me. His wolf was fiercer than mine. His attacks sharper than mine.
But he had just killed my mate. He had killed my brother. There was nothing stopping me from taking his life. Not even the conscious of my own lack of powers.
I fought brutally. No precise attacks, no sharp moves, nothing. Just brutal swipes of claws and merciless bites of fangs.
The fight barely lasted for three minutes. Mason's ripped off head laid in the farthest corner of the room while his body laid in other.
My wolf gave the control back to me. Naked, and heartbroken, I fell down on my knees. I was afraid to touch her. I was afraid to look at her.
Was there any hope?
Was she still alive?
Was she breathing?
