Ellison Taylor
"I would have loved to spend sometime here, but I need to go back to Collins. I'll pick you up this evening?" He asked.
"I might be a little late." I said and he frowned. "Apparently, my boss demanded for a new due date and since I won't be here next week, I have to finish my work on the weekend."
"Your boss is too bossy eh?" He teased.
"But he's a nice boss." I said and his eyes twinkled with mischief. "I think my boss should leave soon, so I can finish my work."
"Right." He said. "Don't forget to eat your lunch."
And that's when I realized it was 2:30 pm. "And you too."
"I'll see you later." He said leaving with a promising note.
"See you." I waved him goodbye as he left with Joe and the other guy who give me a nod as acknowledgment.
No one dared to whisper again after the meeting and I was kind of glad, but mad that he had to take care of this by himself.
I ate a salad bowl while checking the file for the expenses of our last projects when I felt a shadow beside me and I looked up to see Kingsley. His brunette hair was messy and his grey eyes seemed tired. He was dressed in a white shirt with dark jeans and vans.
"Kingsley." I said. "What's up?"
"I need help." He whined.
"With what?" I asked.
"The newbies needs help with the walk."
"And?" I asked.
"Can you come and help them?"
I raised one of my eyebrow. "You used to be a model."
"They are girls." He rolled his eyes at me. Makes sense as I nodded my head, but I have my own work to complete and I contemplated before agreeing and shut the laptop off before standing up with him.
"You tried contacting some of the women who can help them?" I asked. Part of my job is to train new comers with their walks, but that's a small part. It's not mandatory, but it's still part of my job. Usually, we ask the professional models to come and help the new comer with their way of walking.
I walk to the large room with mirrors surrounded us. It is designed this way, so the models can see how they are walking.
All of them seemed to be teenagers in high school or in college. I can sense their nervousness as soon as I stepped in. Natalie was there already and was talking to them. Natalie's job is to figure out the sense of styles for each models which makes it easier for us to pick them when we need models for specific projects. Her main job is to make sure the models maintain their styles and to help with the walk.
"Natalie is here." I said confused. He doesn't need me of course.
"She seemed frustrated. She is being too tough on the newbies. We don't want to scare them, do we?" He raised one of his eye brow at me and I sighed.
Natalie was surprised to see me here. Of course, I'm hardly here when she is here. The newbies look so scared and nervous that I feel somewhat bad for them, but then it's business we are talking about. We take businesses very seriously.
"Hello." I started. "My name is Ellison. I'm the Managerial Director."
There were about seven of them and each of them introduced themselves. To just make things a little more relaxing. I did icebreaker with them- ask them to share their favourite foods with the first alphabet of their names. They were much relaxed later. I asked Natalie to go and take some rest- she was hesitant but couldn't deny it as technically I'm her boss.
I spent an hour correcting each of their movement. Two of them had difficulties keeping their back straight while walking and the rest needed some reminded every now and then about walking slowly or quickly.
It was 6 pm by the time I thought they were doing better than before. Natalie was back and took over what I was doing. Kingsley looked much more relaxed than before.
"Thanks El." He said. "I was having a hard time with Natalie. She seemed frustrated today?"
I didn't tell him about the meeting we had with our boss this morning- it might be the reason why Natalie seemed agitated.
"I have to get going..." I said. "I have to finish my work."
"Are you free for dinner later?" He asked and I shake my head.
"I have plans." I said and hurried towards the exit. "I'll see you later."
"Thanks El." He called out and I ran towards the elevator.
Ian texted me soon after and asked what time he should drop by.
"Is 8:30pm good for you?" I texted back.
"Definitely." He said. "I'll see you."
I didn't reply anything back and focused on my work. Most of the people had already left for home and I found a note from some of the coworkers saying that they will be coming in tomorrow to continue the work that was assigned for Wednesday. It's sad we have to work on weekends, but we do get paid for overtime, so not bad and plus not many people come to the office. Our office is open everyday, but if you are coming to work- there need to be group of people in the building. You can't be the only one in the office, due to safety concern.
At 7:15 pm, I was the only one who was left in our department. The night shift people already started coming in and I could hear buzzing in the hallway.
I made power points of our show ideas and was calculating the expenses of our upcoming shows and it seemed like we will be exceeding the budget and I frowned. We need to cut down on something..
"Seem like someone is working hard." Ian whispered in my ears and I jumped from the slight interruption.
I glared at him. "You could have warned me."
He chuckled. "I knocked at the door." He shrugged and casually sits on the chair across from my desk.
I looked at the clock, it was still 8 pm. I have half an hour left to figure out.
"You're early." I said while comparing the budget from our previous show.
"Early and bored." He added.
"Sounds bad." I said. "I still have half an hour, is that fine with you?"
"Of course." He said. "Go on."
He was like a bored child who seemed to find everything and anything exciting. He seemed to find the small toys I put on my desks for show fun as he was messing with those.
"It's 8:30." He announced and I laughed.
"Okay." I said as I saved my work and shut my laptop off. "What's the plan?" I asked as I took my coat from the hanger.
"We can go and grab some foods first and maybe we can go for a walk.."
"Sounds exciting." I said as I took my bag and we walked out together. The night shift employees seemed to have no idea that Ian was our boss as they carried on with their work while acknowledging us.
"Off from work?" A middle aged man, whom I believe is Mr. Park whom I have met a couple of times while working over time here. He is an Asian man, with very bright personalities and love to talk.
"Yes, Mr.Kim. How is your family doing?" I asked.
"They went on vacation." He said.
"What about you?" I asked.
"Too much work." He sighed and then he look to my right. "Oh.. new employee?" He laughed looking at Ian. Oh boy...
