- 16 | WHAT ON THE WHERE?

I made sure to wake up early this morning before traveling to Hoseok's home across the marketplace. When I knocked, only his mother was home, but she gave me directions as to where I could find him.

"By the old stone bridge, you'll find an abandoned car repair shop. He should be in there. He'll be very happy to see you."

As instructed, I cross the curved stone bridge that's laced with moss and vines. There's a murky green river that streams beneath me, my eyes easily becoming glued to the autumn leaves and lilypads that drift like gentle beds.

When I raise my head, I manage to spot the singular square building ahead. Everything from its sign to the brick exterior is plastered in graffiti, bringing a burst of color to the otherwise green and brown nature surrounding it.

I hesitantly approach the building and push open the door.

"—Mei!" Hoseok hugs me in excitement.

His sudden presence makes me jump at first, but I immediately laugh and hug him back. "Hey you!"

Despite the room's dimness, I can't help but notice a difference in Hobi's style. His shoulder-length brunette hair is trimmed and and brushed back while his outfit consists of a bucket hat, oversized tee and baggy shorts.

"How did you find me here??" He smiles.

"Your mom told me! Here, I brought you something." I take out the steamy container of meat buns and dumpling in my bag, making him clutch his heart. "Gramma made it special for you."

"Ah, I knew there was a reason we became friends." He takes the food hungrily and goes to retrieve some chopsticks. I roll my eyes and sit on the nearby bench.

"Yup. Since 89', when we were 6."

"That long? Wow, we're getting old." He sits next to me and eats.

"Oh, before I forget. Yeonjun wanted me to give you this. I think he handmade it."

"He made me a bamboo journal? With my name engraved in it??" He admires the book cover from several angles. "Man I miss that kid."

"Everyone misses you too." I smile warmingly... But eventually frown at the remembrance of what happened.

"Hoseok... I'm really sorry for everything that happened to you. I can't believe I even allowed it. The fact that you got kicked out for me—"
