vote, comment & enjoy! The following morning, I face my train's window to admire the golden sunrise that washes upon the village's horizon. Little wet droplets trickle down the window from the rain that had taken place earlier, while red-tiled rooftops bake beneath the warmth of pink skies and orange clouds.
God, it feels like forever since I left San. As impoverished as it is... I'm glad to be home.
It feels weird to say I'll never have to return to school or do homework again. Not with so many records now under my belt. The first fighter to win the tournament while injured, the first winner to share the same dojo as the previous winner, and most notoriously, the first female Street Fighter champion.
I look down and smile as the announcer's praise echoes in my head, tracing my fingers along the trophy in my hands. I can't wait to show this to Gramma and Pa.
Although... Taehyung.
A small frown weighs on my lips but I'm quickly startled when Mom touches my shoulder at the halt of our train.
"We're here honey."
Her positive tone makes me smile faintly as we get off the rustic-looking train. The moment we do, I freeze with shock when I see many villagers of San blocking the marketplace to clap for me.
"Woohoo!!!"
"Congratulations Mei!"
There's Mr. Wong, Sakura, my old classmates... Almost every face I'd grown to know these last 12 years praises my name in celebration, making me bow repeatedly with laughter.
But the moment doesn't feel complete. Not without Gramma and Pa.
So shortly after, Mom and I hike the hill to our home where a wave of nostalgia crashes over me. I've missed biking up these uneasy hills, or admiring the distant city skyline and dreaming of what wonders lie...
It doesn't take us long to reach our waist-high gate despite my luggage, but before entering, I give myself a minute to stare at the familiar front porch and empty rocking chair that causes my nerves to spike. There's a Chinese knot tied above the front door that was never there before...
Pa...
Mom's brows angle worriedly when she notices my eyes tearing up. "Honey, what's wrong?"
