TRUST WAS ALWAYS A DIFFICULT THING FOR VERONA. From a young age, she watched how easily it could be broken. Sometimes you don't see somebody's true colors at first. It was always hard for her to build trust with others, almost impossible. Throughout the five months spent in Toledo, she was able to get close to quite a few people, some who she even trusted on a personal level. No matter what, those relationships would always run on thin ice. When someone broke her trust, it was seemingly impossible to get it back. Maybe because she was stubborn, or maybe she was tired of being let down by the same people. She learned the hard way that not everyone is the way they seem.

Verona was leaned up against a wall, her foot anxiously tapping against the ground. Thoughts raced through the girl's mind at an inhuman pace. She was holed up in a room, blocked from exiting, while one of her teammates was probably getting beaten in that moment. Her options were very limited. The regret was becoming unbearable, and she was finding it hard to be still. She couldn't get the image of Rio's fearful eyes out of her head.

Across the room, Florence was standing in the doorway. His hands wrapped tightly around his handgun, ready for if she tried to do anything. Berlin ordered him to watch Verona and make sure she didn't try to contact the Professor or leave the room until he said she could. He hated the predicament they were in, but there was consequences to not following orders-- Rio had been a clear example of that.

Verona's jaw was clenched, her azure eyes piercing into Florence, who refused to meet her gaze. The look in her eyes unsettled him. The betrayal that loomed over all her features made his stomach churn. It took him five months to build her trust, all for it to shatter in a matter of seconds. He didn't know if he would ever be able to put the pieces back together.

The silence of the room was suffocating. It was putting them more on edge. All that could be heard was the ticking of a clock that was hung up on one of the walls.

Verona noticed how Florence looked like he was deep in thought, his attention not on her at all. She decided to make a split second decision and head towards the phone. She raced over to it, which sat on the table in the middle of the room. Her movements caught Florence's attention, and he rushed over to the phone as well. Verona grabbed it, but before she could type in the numbers to call the Professor, Florence had his gun aimed at her head.

"Drop the phone." His voice was calm, a pleading look in his eyes. Verona shook her head, standing her ground. She noticed his hands were a little shaky, watching as he struggled to keep the weapon aimed at her.

"You're not gonna shoot me." She called his bluff, watching as his jaw clenched. His blue eyes pierced into hers, an unsettling look in them. His face faltered for a second, but her composure hadn't slipped at all.
