THIRTY-THREE HOURS INTO HEIST

VERONA WALKED BEHIND THE THREE OUTSIDERS AS BERLIN LED THEM TO A WOUNDED ARTURO. She was hopeful that everything would go smoothly, or at least she had been trying to convince herself that it would. They were already aware that the one 'surgeon' was actually part of the police, which could cause future problems if they aren't careful. They all needed to make sure they kept their masks on to shield themselves from being identified. It wasn't a surprise that the police sent one of their people into the Royal Mint, disguised as a surgeon, but it made Verona's curiosity grow when she thought about what they might be planning.

Verona kept her eyes trained on the man who was part of the police, making sure he didn't try to do anything stupid. She noticed the distressed look on his face as he glanced warily around the room. He was doing an awful job at being discreet.

Verona watched as Denver pushed the tip of his gun into one of the surgeons shoulders, urging him to hurry up. He seemed on edge, and Verona was going to figure out exactly why. He had been disappearing for extended periods of time, and it didn't go unnoticed by her-- neither did the note he shoved in his pocket earlier that day.

The mask on her face was making it almost impossible for her to breathe properly. Ragged breaths escaped her lips, sweat dripping down the side of her thin face. She could barely think straight. The young girl refused to take off her mask in front of an agent, not wanting them to be able to identify her. The last thing she needed was for her parents to realize exactly where she was.

Verona glanced around at the surgeons one last time, before deciding to head upstairs away from everyone. When she got to the top of the staircase, her ears perked up at the sound of talking. Her eyes grew wide when she heard Rio telling someone to give him his gun back, the voice that followed it being Alison Parker.

Her footsteps were quiet as she headed towards the room, slipping the mask from off her face. Deep breaths filled her lungs, soothing her nerves. She stopped at the edge of the door, and took in one last deep breath. She moved to stand in front of the doorway, immediately aiming her rifle at the Ambassador's daughter. Somehow, Alison had managed to get ahold of Rio's rifle.

"Put the gun down." Verona demanded, her voice low and stern. Rio let out a sigh of relief at the sound of her voice. The color drained from Alison's face, but she still didn't let go of the gun.

"Put the gun down, or else your brain matter is going to color the curtains." She threatened, tilting her head at the younger girl. Alison nervously gulped, but she didn't fully believe that Verona would actually shoot her.

Verona stepped forward into the room, moving Rio to the side. Alison now had the gun trained right on her, but Verona could see the uneasiness in her eyes. The likeliness of her using the weapon was slim to none. The blonde girl scoffed out a laugh, aiming her rifle slightly left of the other girl, and fired off a single shot. The ringing of the gunshot and the sound of glass shattering filled the room. Alison flinched, a yelp emitting from her lips.
