MONDAY, EIGHTY-THREE HOURS INTO HEIST

EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE FALLING APART. The heist wasn't even near half way done yet, and almost every rule had been broken. The group of criminals were so close to their breaking point. Pressure was weighing all of them down. Oslo was dead, Tokyo had been arrested, and Berlin had officially gone off the rails after almost executing one of their own. The group had been significantly weakened. The seemingly perfect plan, wasn't so perfect after all. In that moment, Verona felt hopeless. The feeling that was almost innate to her. Her small arms were still wrapped around a distraught Rio. His emotions replicated her own-- ones that she held back from anyone seeing.

Verona handed off the young boy to Florence, who replaced her in comforting him. The blonde girl wanted to see what the Professor had to say. When she got to the office, the first thing her eyes landed on was Berlin. To her surprise, he was slumped over the table, blood dripping down his head. Nairobi stood above him, the phone pressed up against her ear.

"Let the matriarchy begin..."

Verona approached the unconscious man, checking to make sure he had a pulse. The image of him pointing a gun at her head made her clamp her eyes shut tightly, wanting to forget the memory of what had happened a few moments prior. A sigh slipped past her lips as she ran a hand over her face in exhaustion. She took a seat at the table, listening in as Nairobi talked to the Professor.

"Professor, this place is out of control. The situation here is critical. Tokyo played Russian roulette on Berlin, who was tied to a chair. Then Berlin turned her into the police, and then, Rio deserted, and Berlin almost killed him like a Vietnamese firing squad. Ah, Helsinki suffocated Oslo." Nairobi caught the Professor up on everything that had happened while he was away.

Verona felt her stomach drop, her eyes widening at the information that Helsinki had been the one to kill Oslo-- she had assumed he died from the head injury.

"He was in a vegetative state. Helsinki says it's what he would've wanted. This is a royal fucking disaster. I have no choice but to take control of the situation until things get back on track. I'm making Verona my second-in-command."

Verona snapped her head up at the words, shaking her head. The last thing she wanted was the weight of leading the dysfunctional group on her shoulders. Nairobi gave her a reassuring smile, and continued talking with the Professor. The blonde girl stood up from her chair, exiting the room. She leaned her body against the wall of the hallway, slowly lowering herself onto the ground. For once, the silence was like music to her ears. She hated silence, but in that moment it was all she ever wanted to hear again. It outweighed the sound of constant bickering and the ringing of loud gunshots.
