Chapter Twenty-Three

Leon drives faster, knowing what's behind us. This cave we're going through, is starting to fall apart, most of the bombs already exploded. I hug Leon tighter as the wave follows us still, I watch light appear. I see light...we're close to being free, Leon increases the speed. We make it through the cave, feeling the wave impacted us as we make it out. 

We slam onto the water making Ashley fly out of her seat, she yells. Leon turns around, I slightly stand up, yelling her name. She pops her head through the water, yelling Leon's name while swimming. I lend her a hand and she safely sits down behind me. 

"Mission accomplished! Right Leon?" Leon turns his head, making me see his eye spot mine. 

"Not yet, I have to get you to safety." I look down then up, seeing his smirk. He starts up the jet-ski, I get a cold chill making me huddle against Leon more for warmth. After a few minutes a driving away, Ashley starts speaking. 

"So, uh Leon--after you take me back to my place how about we do some--um overtime." My eyes widen, staring at the sea in front of us. Did she really try to ask if he wanted to have--

"Heh, sorry." I then start looking at Leon, surprised he didn't take her offer. After years of being separated, Ada and I have seem to find ourselves by him. 

"Somehow I knew you would say that." Ashley then nudged me, I turn and see her comforting expression. "Can't blame me for trying, but I should've known." She smiles and mouths 'I'm sorry' to me. 

I look at her and mouthed, 'It's alright'. She chuckles very lowly and I turn back around to Leon. So, she knew about him and I, and she still tried. I smile and shake my head down, I give her points for confidence. I begin to feel tired, and gently lay my head onto Leon's back, I close my eyes without a worry. At least I won't be able to die now, I smirk as I go deeper into my thoughts

I scrunch my nose and open my eyes, I see a plain white walls around me. I sit up and notice I'm in a hospital gown, I see some bandages on my body. I sigh, every time I end up here, I hear the door click. It was Leon with a tray of food, he sets up the tray and sit's down at the end of the bed.

"Eat, I'll be asking questions." I grab one piece of bacon and bite into it, feeling a sense of relief. "So, explain to me about your parasite. You said you were hungry, and headed for my neck." I choke on the one bite I took.

"What? When did I say that?" He places his hand on his thigh, while looking at me taking a sip of water.

"You were out when I took out the parasite, but before doing so you said that." I place down the glass of water, and take another bite of my food.

"I found our files, then Saddler told me the eggs will continue to consume me, if I don't--eat human meat." I stop eating, feeling sick just thinking about the whole parasite. 

"Sorry I asked, I needed the data for the report." My eyes widen and I start to look around for the logo, no I can't be here. "Calm down, since you wore the mask for every mission, they don't know you." 

"Good, Leon could you get me pain pills? I feel weak and---" He holds up his hand toward me, and waves it a bit while getting up. 

"Don't explain, I'll get it." He walks out the room and shuts the door, I look to see my clothes on the counter across from me. I then take one more look at the door, I sigh and flip the blanket off of me. 

(Leon's Point of View)

I walk into the room, looking down at the pill container. Once I look up I notice she was gone, I curse under my breath and see her clothes gone. I slam the container down and look at her bed, seeing the blanket flipped and the food tray moved. I then see a paper under her plate, I slip it out and start reading.
