Alesana Pov...
I sat at the rear of "Shay's Sweet Tooth Bakery" watching a video on my phone while I waited for Grams to come out of the ladies' room. Grams, and I have been having lunch here every Friday since I was a teen. She always ordered her favorite lemon-filled donut while I on the other hand feasted on a triple chocolate glazed one.
Just like clockwork every Friday, she would work her way around to prying into my love life. "How are you doing Junebug? I hear Grams ask me drawing my attention away from my phone.
"I'm doing good Grams," I responded, standing from my seat to pull out her chair then places a kiss on her left cheek.
"Junebug, can we move closer towards the front? Grams asked.
"Sure if that's what you want," I say grabbing her things and mine then proceed to select a table near the front door with a window view. I wanted to ask her why the sudden change, but I didn't because I didn't want to be knocked over backward by Grams again. I learned not to ever question her when I was a teenager. If she wanted to do something it was in my best interest to do it or get the hell out of the way.
"Junebug did you meet a beautiful, nice young lady during your photoshoot? Gram inquired while sinking her teeth into her donut.
"Grams I wouldn't exactly characterize anything about her as sweet. She was more like a feisty, fire breathing dragon." I retorted with my anger rising from the mere vision of her popping into my line of view.
"Baby she couldn't have been that bad." Gram mutters while looking over at me suspiciously. "By the way Junebug I have invited a friend of mine to join us today." She announces in between wiping the corner of her mouth with a napkin.
"Gram you're not trying to hook me up on a blind date, are you? I question at the same time, a silky, sweet female voice greets her from behind me.
"Come sit Lacey." Gram instructs her friend patting the seat beside her. "This is my grandson Alesana." She says with pride in her voice.
"Wow, he's handsome just like you said! Gram's friend says making me blush.
"Alesana this is my best friend Lacey Larson," Grams says with a huge smile on her face.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Larson." I greet her as I try to remember why her last name sounds so familiar to me.
"I hope that you guys don't mind that I invited my granddaughter alone with me today. She and I usually spend our Saturdays together." Mrs. Larson says looking from Gram's then over at me.
"Of course not, I've been waiting to see who this amazing woman that you've been raving about for months now." Gram replies a wee bit too excited if you ask me. "Junebug do you mind? Grams asked me politely in front of Mrs. Larson but kicked me with a little force underneath the table.
"Of course not," I grumbled mostly to myself. I felt like I had been trapped and I was the fly in the spider's web.
"Sorry to keep everyone waiting!" I hear a voice that I could pick out of an angry mob of people speaking at the same time. She immediately stopped talking when I turned around to face her. Her bright smile quickly turned into one of utter disgust.
"Grace and Alesana this is my granddaughter..."
"Nana I already know who he is!" Zoey states with disdain towards me but turns to Grams with a genuine smile and politely says, "it's so nice to meet you, Mrs. Wong.
"Please have a seat," Grams says politely to Zoey while kicking my leg under the table once again for me to be a gentleman and pull out her chair.
I rubbed my leg where Grams had kicked me before getting up and doing what I was silently forced to do. My irritation flared a little more when Zoey sat down without even bothering to say thank you. Mrs. Larson and Grams sat beside each other staring at the two of us with amazement.
