JJNiles...

 Zoey's POV...

At 2:45 in the morning, a loud wailing noise jarred me awake and forced me to sit upright in my bed. I had completely forgotten about the baby in his car seat beside the bed. I placed my left hand over my chest and squeezed my eyes shut together tightly as I tried to calm down my racing heart. When I was as calm as I could get, I wiped the sleep out of my eyes and the drool that was sliding past my lip off my face.

Sitting up on the side of the bed, I looked over at Lil Man and saw him staring directly at me. He began to squirm in his car seat when I finally made eye contact with him. "Shhh, I'm here, little one." I cooed at him in a semi-sleepy voice when he began to whimper. His cries became somewhat mellow when I cradled him in the nook of my arm close to my chest.

"Are you wet, Lil man? I asked as I lay him down in the middle of my bed and began to search for a diaper in his bag. I sat there a few minutes puzzled on how in the hell do I even begin to put this diaper on him. It took me so damn long that by the time I did figure it out, Lil man let a huge stinky pile of mushy shit onto my satin purple comfort. Soon afterward, he began to spray piss every damn where. "Eww," I yelled when a few drops of piss hit my bottom lip.

I dashed into the bathroom immediately to wash my face with a warm, soapy face towel. I placed Lil Man back into his car seat after changing him, and then  I snatched the covers off the bed, throwing them on the floor in a pile at the foot of it.

I sat on the foot of the bed deeply in thought on what in the hell I was going to do about Lil Man. I don't have the slightest clue on what it takes to raise a baby. Shit, half of the damn time, I need someone to take care of me.

I called the only person that I knew that was possibly up at this time of morning "my nana" while sitting on the side of the bed. I couldn't call my parents because they were in Jamaica helping my little sister and her husband Niel take care of their three weeks old twins.

"Zoey Aaliyah Larson, there better be a good damn reason for you to be waking me up out of my beauty rest at 3:15 in the morning," Nana grumbles into the phone receiver. Lil man let out another loud wailing noise right when I was about to respond to Nana.

"Is that a cat I hear in the background keeping up all that damn loud racket in my ear? Nana questioned.

"No, Nana! I answered while trying my best to calm him down.

"I know damn well that better not be a baby in the background that I'm hearing! Nana snapped into the phone, nearly busting my eardrum.

"It... It is." I stuttered into the phone.

"Yesterday, you didn't look pregnant to me, or were you hiding something from your sweet Nana? She then asked, sounding hurt.

"Nana, would I do something like that to you? I asked tiredly as I rocked Lil man back and forth in my arms.

"Zoey, weren't you the one to sneak and marry that whorish ass ex-husband of yours when your parents and I begged you not to? Nana countered.

"Yeah and look what kind of hell hole that got me into," I respond bitterly just from thinking about my ex. "I promise you, Nana I've learned that some men are not worth my time the hard way," I add while looking down at Lil man.

"If that's not your baby then who in the hell is it? Nana then demanded, sounding like she doesn't believe me yet.

"I don't know Nana. He was just sitting on my doorstep when I made it home yesterday with a note attached saying that they felt like I would take better care of him than they could." I replied.
