Sangeeta had already adjusted herself in this new city. When she came here four months ago, things were different. She would be missing everything about Kolkata and would have been busy on phone all day with her mummy. But gradually she settled her emotions and paid all her attention to her work.
Today was different. After getting the call from Shreya in the morning, she felt that she was again a bit nostalgic about her past life. Her childhood and teenage years, her cousins, her family and her friends, whomever she left, were coming into her reverie. By the thought that she was going to see Shreya today, she was pretty excited and eagerly waiting for her.
It was 5pm in the evening, when the door bell made its usual sound. Sangeeta almost ran towards the door to welcome her old buddy.
There she was. Standing with a big bar of chocolate and some food packets in hand, dressed in a blue blouse and a pair of jeans. Not a single bit of make up. As expected from her. Just the eyeliner. And a big gummy smile on her face, revealing her dimple on the right cheek.
She same old Shreya, she thought.
Nothing has actually changed about her. Her hair is shorter though, but that's alright. She never loved keeping long hair that much. She was just too lazy to go the parlour.
"Sangeetaaaaaaaa!!!" She came in and jumped on her for a tight hug. Sangeeta hugged her back. A real warmth, she felt since she came here.
They were sitted next to each other on the sofa with some chocolates, sweets, snack on the centre table in front of them.
"So!! What's up!! Since when in Pune?" , Shreya asked.
"Been four months! ", Sangeeta told her.
"What do you do here? I mean, what job? " Shreya sitted herself comfortably on the sofa.
Sangeeta did the same and replied that she works here as a sales executive in an electronics company here in Pune."What are you doing in Pune, Shreya? I wasn't expecting you to come out of Kolkata.." , she asked.
Shreya chuckled softly and said , "You know! Things don't always go the way you want them to do. So.... Yeah, here I am in Pune with a job in a multinational import export company".
Sangeeta understood what she was talking about. She didn't want to go deeper. Shreya would eventually tell her everything.
After having long conversations about their jobs, lives, families, Shreya finally decided to return to her apartment. Actually she was living with one of her relative as she didn't manage to find any good place for her before coming.
Sangeeta thought once and then gave the proposal to her. "You can move in, here, you know, with me."
"REALLY!!! That's a great idea!! Can I really stay with you!!!! "
" Yep, you can dear. I am bored being alone too !! "
"Okay then, I'll contact you." Shreya said heartily. " See ya!!" , And giving Sangeeta a tight hug again, she left.
Okay! Now Sangeeta was alone in her apartment. Again. She thought she should prepare for the dinner first and then work on Amit's presentation. She did offer Shreya to have the dinner with her. But she said that her relative had already arranged the dinner, so she couldn't stay here for long.
One thing came to her mind. She said that she got my number from Amrita. That means she is in touch with her. May be she is in touch with the others too. Am I the only one who lost the connections? If it wasn't Amrita who found me again on social media, I wouldn't have got her number too.
___________________It was 10pm in the clock and Sangeeta headed towards the balcony with the phone and headphones. Dinner was over and it was time for One Direction.
She was thinking if Shreya really came to stay with her, there would be questions about the old friends.
"May be Shreya would ask me about Preetha too. What am I going to say? Does she know anything about us? May be I'll ask about Piya too. Did they make up after that fight?", She mumbled.
She felt a little sad as she didn't know anything about this group anymore. But she just let all this go and turned on her playlist.
You and I
We don't wanna be like them
We can make it 'til the end
Nothing can come between
You and I
Not even the Gods above
Can separate the two of us
No, nothing can come between
You and IThis time the lyrics hit her differently.
