Third person P O V:

Both of them pulled away after a couple of minutes. With extremely irregular breathing and eyes closed, both of them tried to come back to their senses.

"I'm sorry about that... ", Shivam tried to explain.

"Yes. You already had 1000 reasons to apologise to me. And you just got the 1001th reason. Wow. Congratulations!", Shreya huffed.

A small chuckle left his lips.
"So.. can I drop you home today?"

She hummed. "Okay.. " she agreed but just a second after , reality hit her.

"Oh no! I promised Sangeeta to meet up at the airport! She'll be leaving for the business tour.. I forgot it.. " , Shreya exclaimed and immediately headed out waving a hand towards Shivam as a 'good bye wave',
" I'll see you tomorrow.. bye bye!"

Shivam got blanked out for a moment at the randomness of this girl. Then assuming that things were going to be better from now on, he decided to go to the parking lot to get his car and go home.

He decided to text Saurav to thank him.
>>[Hey, bro! Thanks for not waiting for her. Thanks for letting her stay with me. I hope things are better now.]

He unlocked the door of his car, got in the driver's seat and checked his phone again for a reply from Saurav.

Strange. He gives reply promptly.

Maybe he has gone to the airport too, to see off Sangeeta.

And he drove down the streets.

As soon as Shreya got out of that building, she managed to take a cab. She was already late. Sangeeta won't be happy if she was late.

Should I tell her about the-- the kiss?

No. Not now. Let her come back first.

All of a sudden her phone started ringing. Sangeeta it was.
"I'm getting a little babe. I'll be there just in half an hour.."

"Just take a u turn Shreya. Come to the MBT nursing home. Fast!"

"Nursing home? Why? "

"Don't ask. Just come .. Fast fast!! " Sangeeta's voice sounded not-so-good.

Shreya didn't feel well just by listening to her voice. Something was wrong.

"Sangeeta you got injured? Any accident? What happened? Can't you freaking tell me? ", Shreya cried out.

"Not me. Him. Saurav."

Shreya's heart thumped loudly in her chest.

Yes! He was not waiting for her at the gate today.

"I'm coming. Stay there." Shreya managed to say the words and asked the driver to change the dropping location.

Sangeeta wasn't present when he was admitted. She came after that. She was terrified to even imagine the blood covered body of Saurav.

What could have happened to him? How did this happen? The police reported that it was a road accident. But that was not enough information to calm her mind down.

Just at that moment, someone approached Sangeeta.

A girl of her age. Maybe a little younger.

"You're Sangeeta, right! ", Her face looked as depressed as Sangeeta's own face.

"Yes! I don't think I.. ", Sangeeta was cut off in the middle.

"I'm Mitali.. I'm Saurav's fiance..", the girl stated. "Didn't he tell you about me?"

Sangeeta tried to process her words inside her head.

Fiance? Did she say 'fiance' ?

Sangeeta was clueless. Without her consent, a drop of warm tear fell on her cheek.

Mitali came nearer and placed a hand on Sangeeta's shoulder.

"I know this is tough for you.
Believe me, it's the same for me.
I never in my nightmares thought that I was going to see him like this... " , Her voice choked too.

Sangeeta couldn't find any comfort in those words.

Right at that moment, hurried footsteps were heard along the corridor of the third floor of the nursing home.

Shreya appeared in front of her.

"Where's he?" Shreya asked anxiously.

"Operation theatre.. " Sangeeta replied . Her eyes were red and brain had already stopped working.

Shreya didn't feel the land below her feet.

"Fiance? " She asked for the second time, just to confirm if she was hearing it alright.

Now that Sangeeta came to think of it, Saurav never directly told her that he was in love with her. He just had mentioned that he had missed her. Or, he wanted to do those things together, they used to do in the past, like going to the park, outings, dinners, ice creams.

Nothing more.

I was the best friend.

I am just the best friend.

Shreya wanted to make the things better. She wanted to cheer her friend up, but she knew it to be too difficult right now.

She couldn't just sit and watch Sangeeta in this indescribable state. She just wanted Saurav to be okay.

Right now he was the only person who could answer all the questions.

Sangeeta couldn't take it anymore. She broke down. 

[A/N:  I'm so so so sorry for this twist.
