Allison's Point of View
Dinner that evening felt painfully quiet. The four of us barely touched our food, each of us too distracted by what was waiting for Hagrid after sunset.
Harry kept his arms folded tightly over his chest the entire meal, hiding the bulky shape of the Invisibility Cloak tucked beneath his robes.
When everyone finally began making their way back toward Gryffindor Tower, we slipped away unnoticed amongst the crowd. Only once the corridors had fallen silent did Harry pull out the cloak.
"Quick," Hermione whispered nervously. The four of us squeezed tightly together beneath the silver fabric before hurrying through the castle grounds. The cold evening air bit at my cheeks as we made our way toward Hagrid's hut.
I knocked softly on the door. Hagrid opened it almost immediately, looking around wildly before Harry whispered, "It's us. We've got the cloak on."
"Get in here then," Hagrid muttered quickly, stepping aside. "Yeh shouldn't've come." We pulled off the cloak once the door shut behind us. The hut felt unusually gloomy. Even Fang lay silently beside the fire.
"Would you like some tea?" Hagrid asked hoarsely, reaching shakily for the kettle. "It's alright, Hagrid," I said gently, taking it from him before he could spill it. "I'll do it."
He sank heavily into his chair while Hermione came over to help me. "Where's Buckbeak?" Hermione asked quietly. "Outside," Hagrid answered thickly. "Tied up in the pumpkin patch. Thought he deserved a bit o' fresh air before."
His voice broke before he could finish. Harry leaned forward. "Isn't there anything anyone can do?"
"What about Dumbledore?" Hagrid shook his head miserably. "He's tried. Told 'em Buckbeak's harmless. But Lucius Malfoy's scared 'em all stiff." His hands trembled as he wiped at his face.
"Great man, Dumbledore. Said he'd stay with me till the end." Beside me, Hermione made a quiet choking sound, tears filling her eyes. "We'll stay too," she blurted out.
Hagrid's head snapped up immediately. "No, yeh won't," he said firmly. "The four o' yeh need ter get back up ter the castle." His eyes landed on Harry and me specifically.
"Especially you two." I quietly handed everyone their tea before sitting beside Hermione. A sudden squeaking noise broke the silence. "Oh! Before I forget," Hagrid said suddenly, getting to his feet.
He grabbed a small box from a shelf and opened it. "Scabbers!" Ron exclaimed, hurrying over. The rat looked frantic, squealing and thrashing as Ron scooped him into his hands.
"It's alright," Ron soothed. "There's no Crookshanks here." But Scabbers only struggled harder. Then Hagrid suddenly froze. "They're comin'." We all rushed to the window.
