i looked over to the passenger seat to see a sleeping changbin with the view of the empty beach behind him. his cheek pressed against the window and his breath made small clouds on the glass. his hands tightly gripped his seatbelt while his chest fell up and down softly. was this true love? like the kind in the movies. the kind with soulmates. i sure hope so.
i placed my hand on his arm, slightly shaking him. "binnie baby, wake up. i don't want you to miss the sunset."
"huh? yeah, i'm up." his eyes fluttered opened and he shook as if he had the chills.
"there's a blanket in the back seat. pick a place to sit on the sand, okay? i'm going to grab us some ice cream before the snack bar closes."
"i'll see you out there!" i gave him my nicest smile and quickly hurried out of the car.
the snack bar was cute and it had fairy lights along the top of the building. a brunette male stood with his back against the counter and i rang the small bell to catch his attention. he spun around and i immediately knew who he was. zhong chenle, one of the guys that i told my parents was coming to the beach tonight. what a great coincidence.
he smiled at me, reaching over the counter and poking my arm. "hey felix. what are you doing here so late?"
"watching the sunset haha." i blinked nervously. no one knew about changbin. i wasn't embarrassed of him, but he couldn't exactly come over here and shake chenle's hand, god only knows what would happen.
his finger aimed towards the beach behind me, my eyes followed his point and it was directly at changbin. "is that your boy toy?"
"in fact, he is. he wanted to come see the sunset on the beach. its, uh, been a while." i smiled at the sight of changbin lying down on the blanket just gazing at the sky above him, a truly beautiful sight.
"so what can i get you tonight? anything special for your lover?"
"how about two strawberry ice creams. he likes strawberries." i giggled at my statement, envisioning the chocolate covered strawberries i had found in changbin's refrigerator.
chenle smirked and turned around to get my order. i looked back at changbin, and he was watching the birds fly over the horizon. his eyes wondered his surroundings, i could feel his excitement from over here. i love him, there was no doubting that anymore.
"here's your ice cream felix, it's on me." i took the cones with wide eyes, looking at the chocolate hearts on top of each swirl. before i could say thank you, chenle kept talking. "after you finish up here, there's a waterfall not too far down the street. it's really pretty at night and it has lights all around the area. he'll like it, trust me."
"thank you, chenle. i mean it."
"hurry before the sun goes down all the way!"
my smile was uncontrollable at this point, and i began to run in the direction of changbin. i could feel chenle's proud gaze following me. this would be the perfect night, no one would stop that.
"binnie, i got strawberry. is that okay?" i took a seat next to him and handed him a cone.
"it's perfect. there's even a chocolate heart!"
i kissed his cheek and proceeded to move myself between his legs. without hesitation his free arm wrapped around me with his hand resting on my stomach. my head leaned back to perfectly rest on his shoulder. i felt happy.
his mouth leaned towards my ear and i felt his smile. "i don't know what's more perfect, you or this sunset."
i could feel my cheeks heat up and i laughed it off. i turned my head to look back at him, and his gaze was glued to the array of purples, pinks, and oranges in the sky. the colors reflected in his eyes, it was easily the most gorgeous view i had ever seen. in that moment, i couldn't ask for anything more.
i could feel his heartbeat getting faster against my back. his eyes were shifting from the sky to me. his arm pulled me even closer to him as his breaths got deeper and deeper. why was he suddenly getting so nervous?
"can i kiss you, felix?"
"you never have to ask."
our unfinished ice cream cones were left to melt in the sand, and changbin turned me to face him. he lifted me onto his lap gently, allowing our faces to be only an inch away. his hands rested on my lower back while my hands cupped his face. "you are amazing, changbin. i couldn't have gotten luckier."
then our lips connected and i couldn't tell you how long it took me to let go.

we sat starstruck under the starlit sky. i couldn't possibly ask for anything better than what felix has given me. the only light shining on us was from the full moon above. i never thought i'd ever get to experience a fraction of the happiness i felt now.
"binnie, it's getting dark. let's start to head out. i want to take you somewhere else."
"w-what? felix, you didn't have to."
"trust me, you'll like it."
he gave me a push then pulled me up and to the car. i rested my head on the window just gazing at the sights before me. the street lights were the only thing keeping the road from being pitch black, but i had no fears in the world. felix's hand slipped into mine and i felt completed. i never loved my life more than in this moment now. i had everything i needed.
"so um, have you ever gone swimming?"
"i didn't bring-"
felix let out a small laugh as he squeezed my hand. "you won't need it."
so that's how we're doing things now. fair game.
