"We're ready for you now." she said as her lips curled into a slight smile. "Follow me."

Artemis and the other students all filed into a neat two by two line and entered through the golden twin doors.

She was behind a girl with extremely bushy hair and stopping every few steps to make sure hair didn't land in her face.

The hall was filled with students sitting at long bench tables wearing identical black robes with the exception of different coloured ties and lit candles-- but not just any candles, these candles were levitating.

Above the thousands of candles was a splendid replica of the night sky filled with ten times as many stars as there were candles.

"It's not real, the ceiling." the girl in front of Artemis said, "it's just bewitched to look like the night sky. I read about it in Hogwarts: A History."

Artemis gave a childish huff at the girl's fact.

The witch finally came to a stop and stood beside a simple looking stool with a rather musty looking patched hat.

Artemis ran a long list in her head about the possible germs and vermin that that hat was filled with. She shuddered.

"Before we begin, Professor Dumbledore would like to say a few words." the witch said.

Professor Dumbledore, an elderly man with a snow white beard that reached just before his belt buckle and half moon spectacles, stood up from the main table.

"Now, I'd like to say a few words," Professor Dumbledore said calmly, "First years, please note that the dark forest is strictly forbidden to all students. Also our caretaker, Mister Filch, has asked me to remind you that the third floor corridor on the right hand side is out of bounds to all of those who do not wish to die a most painful death. Thank you."

Artemis looked at the man in disbelief; There's no way he could be serious. She took a look around her and no one seemed the slightest bit concerned, only the Potter boy seemed to be thinking the same thing she was; "Was this man mad?!"

"Now, when I call your name, you will come forth and place the sorting hat on your head and you will be sorted into your houses." the witch said as she unrolled a piece of parchment. "Granger, Hermione."

The girl with bushy hair walked towards the stool shakily, mumbling to herself. The hat sprang into life as it was placed onto her head. It took a small moment before shouting loudly, "GRYFFINDOR!"

The middle table erupted with cheers and whistles for their new student. Hermione Granger hopped off the stool, looking pleased with herself and joined the table.

"Malfoy, Draco!"

Malfoy swaggered forth, making sure to shove at least one student out of his way. Before the hat had fully touched his head, it shouted, "SLYTHERIN!"
