Athena

Macy's POV

If I was a teenager right now, at this moment, I would've went straight to Athena, dragged her across the restaurant and strangled her but thankfully I'm not anymore. Sophia offered to have breakfast with Athena today along with Nash and I was mature enough to say yes. I mean to be honest what happened between Nash and her was years ago, why would I be scared of her or maybe the thought of Nash being tempted to cheat on me again, okay maybe just a little but I trust him so I think I've got nothing to worry about.

Actually when I woke up this morning I was feeling nervous because I'm meeting Athena, the girl who is one of the reasons why me and Nash broke up before and is the mother of Sophia. I had to make a first impression on her. I want her to think that I can be somewhat a second mother to Sophia and that I am now mature enough to handle things appropriately.

I'm the one who was late for breakfast because I seriously didn't know what to wear. I was aiming for something casual but everytime I look in the mirror all I see is like Kate Middleton going to a garden party or something, thankfully I managed to pull something out of my closet.  I ran out of the apartment and hurriedly went to my car, managed not to trip mainly because I wasn't wearing heels today.

When I got to the venue they we're already there. When I saw Nash and Sophia I had a smile on my face, when I turned to Athena it sort of changed. It was awkward obviously but I had to smile at her to make it a little less awkward.

"Macy! You came!" Sophia exclaimed. "Mom this is Macy, Macy this is my mom, Athena." 

"Pleasure to meet you Athena." I extended my hand for a handshake.

"Likewise." She smiled and shook my hand.

I can almosy hear Nash's heartbeat. I can also feel that the smile Athena gave to me was genuine.

"Dad, can you go with me to the buffet table?" Sophia asked politely.

"Yeah sure sweetie. Excuse me ladies." He gave me a 'try to talk to her' look before leaving the table.

So after they left there was an awkward silence between us but Athena managed to speak first.

"Before you say anything, I just want to say that I'm really sorry for what I did before. We were young and I was just so....." I cut her off.

"Its fine. Its already in the past and I know you're sorry. Don't worry I forgive you." I gave her a smile.

She stood up from her chair and sat beside me. She gestured for a hug, at first I hesitated because I thought it was weird  but then I want things between us to be fine so I hugged her back. After that hug everything felt so good. We talked and talked until Nash and Sophia got back from the buffet table which was like 20 minutes of talking. I learned a lot about her and how she raised Sophia. She's a really great person to be honest, she's so friendly and approachable.

"Looks like you've warmed up with each other." Nash commented.

"Care to join me to the buffet table Athena?" I asked.

"Don't mind if I do."

We've been eating and chatting for almost an hour. Everything was doing well untl Athena said something that broke Sophia's heart.

"I need your help, Nash and Macy. I've been doing some things that I'm not proud of because of the influence of drugs and alcohol. I'm turning myself in because I don't want to do it anymore and if I do, Sophia's life might be affected. I need you to be her legal guadian while I'm gone."

"How long are you gonna be gone mom?" Sophia asked with tears on her face.

"The lawyer said about 14 years in prison." She tried to hold Sophia's hand but she ran away.

I stood up and said that I'll go after her. Luckily she wasn't that far. She just locked herself in one of the bathroom stalls.

"Sophia, honey, can you please open the door and go out here for a while." I pleaded.

She was crying. She opened the door and ran to me and cried even more.

"She can't be gone that long. I need her in my life. I don't know what I'd do without her." She said to me.

"Well, Sophia, she's doing this for your own good. If she doesn't turn herself in you're life would be much more complicated. She wants you to be safe. She wants to secure your future. I know its hard but she wants to do it."

"She hates me, that's why she wants to leave me in your care. I'm just a mistake. I wasn't supposed to be born."

"You're mom loves you Sophia, more than anything in the world. She just wants you to live a normal, safe life." I said. "Don't worry we'll visit her as much as you want."

"Thank you Macy." She held my hand and walked back to the table.

"Mom you won't forget me right?" She asked.

In the verge of tears Athena said "Of course I won't. I love you Sophia." 

"Love you too mom."

A few days after and now Sophia's living with me. Me and Nash agreed that she would live with me because Nash's work hours is more complicated than mine and I wanted to be with Sophia. Its nice that everyday I drive her to school and take her to different places. Its like I'm spending time with my own daughter which sometimes makes me think if I'm ready to start my own family with Nash.
