AALIYAH TAYLOR
|||
LUNCH FLEW BY, and before I knew it, I was back in my office, typing away at my computer. Involuntarily, my eyes would stray away from my computer screen and across the hall, settling on Mr. Braxton's door. It had been closed all day, leading me to believe he was either really busy or didn't want to be bothered. I hadn't seen him all day, not that I wanted to.
Shaking Mr. Braxton from my thoughts, I resumed with my work. I was in the middle of scheduling a meeting when a knock sounded from the door. My head snapped to the direction of the door before I called out to whoever stood on the opposite side of the entrance.
In walked Mr. Braxton. He was wearing a navy blue Armani suit—a white dress shirt and navy blue tie peeking out from the top part of the navy blue lounge coat. His hair was slicked back to perfection—not one hair out of place—with what I could only assume was gel. His hazel colored eyes darkened a bit as he took in my outfit, but they quickly returned back to their natural color.
"Mr. Braxton." I greeted, slowly breaking eye contact with him.
My eyes trailed back towards my computer, my fingertips resting on the keyboard, yet I wasn't typing anything.
"Ms. Taylor. Is the meeting with Mr. Lewis in place?" Mr. Braxton questioned.
"We were actually going over the details of the meeting for tomorrow, Sir." I said, offering Mr. Braxton a small smile, which he didn't bother returning.
With a simple nod of his head, Mr. Braxton turned on his heels and exited my office. I let out a sigh and continued composing the email I had been writing.
The rest of the day dragged on at a leisurely pace. Once the clock hit six thirty, I powered off my computer and gathered my belongings. I made my way out of my office and walked across the hall to Mr. Braxton's office. I rose an arm, knocking on the door. Mr. Braxton's voice rumbled from the other side of the door. I pushed open the door, walking into the office.
"I'm heading out, Sir." I said, causing Mr. Braxton to look up at me from the work he had been doing.
"Alright, have a good night, Ms. Taylor." Mr. Braxton said.
"You too, Sir."
Without another word, I turned and walked out of the office. I made my way down the hallway, towards the elevator. I proceeded to my car, getting in. Once I was situated in my car, I started it and pulled out of the building's parking lot.
The drive home was silent, for the most part-the radio becoming nothing but an annoying hum in the background.
By the time I got home, it was seven twenty-five. I trudged into my apartment, setting my purse and keys on the kitchen table. I sighed contently, walking into my room. I stripped out of my clothes, changing into a loose fitting t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants. I pulled my hair into a bun and walked out to the kitchen.
Before I could make it to my fridge, my phone began to ring. I grabbed it, smiling as Tiffany's name flashed at the top of the screen. I answered.
"Hey, Tiffany!" I said.
"Hey! I had a question for you." Tiffany said.
"Go ahead."
"I was wondering if you'd want to go out this weekend? There's a new club opening downtown and I really want to go." Tiffany explained.
The line went silent for a new minutes as Tiffany waited for my answer. I wasn't what people would call a "party person." I normally preferred to stay indoors, however, I was answering Tiffany's question before my brain could catch up to my mouth.
"I'll come!" I blurted out.
"Great, I'll see you on Saturday, then!" Tiffany said before ending the call.
I set my phone on the counter, letting out a sigh.
What had I just gotten myself into?
